Rival cars that made you fear for your team on first impression (actual speed notwithstanding)

The following cars made me fear a bit for my team when I first saw them (in no particular order)
- BMW F1.08
- Ferrari F2008
- Lotus/Renault R31
- Brawn
- MP4-25
The current crop of Red Bulls, although tragically fast, never really looked intimidating at first impressions. Sure, when you study the details, you can see some genius going one. And although it makes a difference, it's not immediately obvious when you look at. But I don't want to limit it even to a physical trait of a car. It can be anything on it's presentation that made you clinch a bit. From merely a gut feeling to a purposeful stance to a fairy godmother.

Don't be silly, they weren't around in 2008.

1995-2009: McLaren
2010-2012: Mercedes.
(I guess the avatar is a clue...)

As a flip side to this thread, yes I'm compelled to agree. Although their final unraced one (the name escapes me) did seem to have something to it, on looks alone.

Also the Williams FW26 - now we all know how that turned out - but at the time a return to Williams dominance seemed almost inevitable (a return to the natural F1 pecking order that I'd grown up with...).

Yep, that was the first Toyota that looked "right".
Ironic really...

BMW F1.08? I can't remember too well, but didn't it look horrible during testing? Though they managed at the last minute to develop it into a pretty good car.
No, it was fast but run it with more fuel during winter testing

And yes, it had the speed ,it just blew the rest of them into the weeds, but was a little bit fragile in '67.
JC + Lotus 49 in '68 would have been a massacre.

Quite right. But Im not talking about actual car performance, but a sixth sense that told you it was fast when you first saw it (even if you were wrong and it was wasnt).
