Ferrari also wore reading spectacles from a certain point, often with a tinted lenses. Often mistaken for sunglasses.
But as mentioned also a bit of a hidaway for his eyes. I doubt he worried about wearing them as image statement.

That's what I thought, but no.Because of Dino's death, wasn't it? And of course it added to the myth nicely.
Logical, but no.Most pictures taken of Enzo Ferrari are from press conferences or his visits to Monza for the practice sessions. At press conferences and photo shoots he hated the flash and camera lights, so he wore sunglasses also indoors. Outside in Italy quite often the sun shines, also at Monza or San Marino.

It was somehow (to give a hint) an sort of image worry...

Oh yes, I agree with you Arjan, no doubts. So you ask a question, but you already have the answer. Logical, but no.
Yes, there were other reasons. But the stated reasons have been given by himself. So...
No doubts that also it was due to the loss of his son, and that he hated the journalistic crowd.
But, in opposition to what you said about "statements", there was a reason why he wore specifically one pair of sunglasses (the ones he wore the most), and the reason is pride, cosmetics, jealousy and one he would have never admitted, but that I read quite a while ago in an old book I read about him, and in another Forum (which confirmed what I had read). I don't remember all the details, but the reasons of why the sunglasses, apart from the well known ones, is very "Enzo Ferraristic" (if I may say so)...
I will soon release the answer, as this question was asked in another Forum I visited some times ago, and it took several months before the quizzer unveiled the answer.

Ummm, what's to say that the person on the other forum hadn't just read the same book?...I read quite a while ago in an old book I read about him, and in another Forum (which confirmed what I had read). ...
As for this delay in releasing an "answer", I personally just find that plain annoying.

Achromatopsia
Rare, inherited vision disorder in which a person has little or no ability to see color. People with achromatopsia also commonly experience some vision loss, especially in bright light, to which they are extremely sensitive. The severity of achromatopsia varies. Although there is no cure or treatment for this disorder, people with achromatopsia can manage its symptoms. For example, they can wear sunglasses or tinted contact lenses to cope with bright light. They can use magnifiers and other devices for low vision to help them read, and telescopes to help them see distant objects.

Delay ?Ummm, what's to say that the person on the other forum hadn't just read the same book?
As for this delay in releasing an "answer", I personally just find that plain annoying.Neil
The delay is also maybe due to the fact that I do gardens for a living, now is the peak period of the year, and therefore, have not the time you probably have to parade all day on a forum.
I do apologize for the delay, but where is the fun if by asking a question to knowledgeable people, you release immediately the answer. Maybe you can tell me Neil ?
I think that Neil's message was already stating that, no ?Annoying.... and silly Rob
But, tell me Rob, why is it silly ?
And, sorry, but to the two of you. Are you always so welcoming to newcomers ?
Hi JackI'm skeptical of any amateur psycho-diagnosis over something like the wearing of sunglasses. Perhaps his eyes became more sensitive to light later in life, as mine have.
Or maybe he had an endorsement deal with Persol!
No, no psycho effect, somehow more of a cosmetic thing, and from what I know, he had no major eye problems.
The "Persol" thing is funny, and the brand is absolutely the one !
Jees, you are an eye doctor eldougo ? Funny too, but no.Maybe this is what Enzo had.

How many people spent hours going through their archives trying to find an answer to help you out? Probably none, in this instance, but I hope you see my point

It is silly because if you know the answer why did you post the questionBut, tell me Rob, why is it silly ?

For my part I am welcoming to new members if they approach TNF with a good attitude....
...something I did not see in the tone of your posting.
Maybe I am wrong? Obviously your future posts on TNF will decide.
You returned to your topic within 24 hours so why did you not post the answer then?Delay ?
The delay is also maybe due to the fact that I do gardens for a living, now is the peak period of the year, and therefore, have not the time you probably have to parade all day on a forum.

I am starting to understand the confusion, sorry for it (see below), and thanks David for your patienceThe problem everyone's having, Blutch, is that when people ask questions on this forum it's usually because they're seeking answers, not because they're trying to see if we know as much as the questioner does
What is the ignore button ? And if it is what I think it is, do you usually walk straight to someone you don't know and tell him that you don't like him; without knowing him ?I'll have to look for that "Ignore" button, finally.
If it is what I indeed believe it is (but I'll wait for your confirmation), I would say that you are not very nice Sir.
Rob, I get you now and feel that I am spending my time since I arrive apologizing ?It is silly because if you know the answer why did you post the question

M. Stonenfeld is right below, it was meant to be a sort of quizz, not a query from me to have you look to provide me with an answer. Again, ok, I do feel silly
Correct ! Thank you.I think he was intending to ask a sort of trivia quiz question, but fumbled the delivery.
Funny one ! I hope you enjoy gardening, because, I do it for a living, and love it, I am outside, see the seasons change, nature in its beauty.Blutch - hurry up with the answer to this so that I can get on with my gardening
Today, I felt sorry, because with my team (we are only 3 in total), we had to down a very old wonderful centennial Oak which was impeaching the Mister to have his solar system adequately set-up for its purpose. Funny, at the base, there was a heart curved in it, with two initials : L& S, looked as if it had been there since very, very long, nature is full of history, trees certainly are, the way the have been cut, when etc.
To cut this embarrassing thread short, do you want to still search for an answer, or that I release the answer ?
It is though to note, that officially, and as it was already stated, the origin of the dark sunglasses, was the death of Dino, the ones he wore until he died, more of a nifty and somehow a green-eyed one.
Have you all a nice evening

In Cavallino magazine 187 (Feb/March 2012) in the letters section someone is asking:
''What make of sunglasses did Enzo Ferrari usually wear??'' His name is John A. Cheek of Colombus OH..
Any parallels here Mr Cheek?? ((a cheak??))
Best regards Michael

No, no parallels, M. Smart Alec, apart that the ones I am talking about were also made by this brand.
Persol : the name is derived from "per il sole," which, in Italian, means "for the sun."
Steve McQueen popularized two Persol models: the 714 folding sunglasses and closely styled 649. He wore a special pair of 714's with blue lenses in "The Thomas Crown Affair" and was often photographed wearing the 649 model.
People. please ya'll have a wonderful day , we go back & finish the oak

a. Because, if you read me, I also wrote that I read it in a book, which I can't find anymore by the way, asked the wife, said she has no clueHow do you know that your other website answer was correct?
When it said he wore the sunglasses in memory of Dino, or as a sign that he was mourning Dino's death? Whichever you meant when you wrote
b. I didn't say both, and what is the difference ? Can you repeat the question ? Don't get you there ? Sorry.

Do you really know its significance ?
Anyhow, no matter. Just a quickie, and then bye.
Some times ago, I was told by someone I met how nice the Autosport Forum is, and specifically the Nostalgia one, "full of nice open-minded people".
I thread, maybe 6 or 7 posts, and I have almost been called all names. Really open-minded, and obviously welcoming people here, thank you.
I will just simply do like the "Pythons" say : "Runaway, runaway..."
I do wish you truly all the best, you & your families, and thank you for having given me a fair opportunity to join.
I go back to my trees
Blutch.
ps: no hard feelings or grudges, you are only people (says it all )

The new Museo Enzo Ferrari (opened on 10th March) offers in its shop the following:
On the occasion of the opening of the Museum, the store features, beside several books, the clothing and writing line “Opening Celebration Special Edition”. The collectibles are two: the artisanal replicas of Enzo Ferrari’s famous dark sunglasses, and a valuable watch with a unique design and special decorative elements, made by a famous Modenese company, on a Limited Edition (180 numbered pieces).
But the website is worth a visit.

I thought Blutch was kind of charming, actually.
I suspect English is not his first language, so he may have been tripped up by that from the beginning, and then things went downhill from there.....
My Persol reference was in jest, though. Very few pictures of Enzo that I've seen show him wearing Persols, which have a distinctive and unique "silver arrow" motif on the hinge and stem.
