Enzo Ferrari's sunglasses. Someone knows why ?

Most pictures taken of Enzo Ferrari are from press conferences or his visits to Monza for the practice sessions. At press conferences and photo shoots he hated the flash and camera lights, so he wore sunglasses also indoors. Outside in Italy quite often the sun shines, also at Monza or San Marino.
Ferrari also wore reading spectacles from a certain point, often with a tinted lenses. Often mistaken for sunglasses.
But as mentioned also a bit of a hidaway for his eyes. I doubt he worried about wearing them as image statement.

Oh yes, I agree with you Arjan, no doubts.
No doubts that also it was due to the loss of his son, and that he hated the journalistic crowd.
But, in opposition to what you said about "statements", there was a reason why he wore specifically one pair of sunglasses (the ones he wore the most), and the reason is pride, cosmetics, jealousy and one he would have never admitted, but that I read quite a while ago in an old book I read about him, and in another Forum (which confirmed what I had read). I don't remember all the details, but the reasons of why the sunglasses, apart from the well known ones, is very "Enzo Ferraristic" (if I may say so)...

I will soon release the answer, as this question was asked in another Forum I visited some times ago, and it took several months before the quizzer unveiled the answer.

I'm skeptical of any amateur psycho-diagnosis over something like the wearing of sunglasses. Perhaps his eyes became more sensitive to light later in life, as mine have.



Or maybe he had an endorsement deal with Persol!

The delay is also maybe due to the fact that I do gardens for a living, now is the peak period of the year, and therefore, have not the time you probably have to parade all day on a forum.
I do apologize for the delay, but where is the fun if by asking a question to knowledgeable people, you release immediately the answer. Maybe you can tell me Neil ?

No, no psycho effect, somehow more of a cosmetic thing, and from what I know, he had no major eye problems.
The "Persol" thing is funny, and the brand is absolutely the one !

The problem everyone's having, Blutch, is that when people ask questions on this forum it's usually because they're seeking answers, not because they're trying to see if we know as much as the questioner does

Funny one ! I hope you enjoy gardening, because, I do it for a living, and love it, I am outside, see the seasons change, nature in its beauty.
Today, I felt sorry, because with my team (we are only 3 in total), we had to down a very old wonderful centennial Oak which was impeaching the Mister to have his solar system adequately set-up for its purpose. Funny, at the base, there was a heart curved in it, with two initials : L& S, looked as if it had been there since very, very long, nature is full of history, trees certainly are, the way the have been cut, when etc.

To cut this embarrassing thread short, do you want to still search for an answer, or that I release the answer ?
It is though to note, that officially, and as it was already stated, the origin of the dark sunglasses, was the death of Dino, the ones he wore until he died, more of a nifty and somehow a green-eyed one.

No, no parallels, M. Smart Alec, apart that the ones I am talking about were also made by this brand.
Persol : the name is derived from "per il sole," which, in Italian, means "for the sun."
Steve McQueen popularized two Persol models: the 714 folding sunglasses and closely styled 649. He wore a special pair of 714's with blue lenses in "The Thomas Crown Affair" and was often photographed wearing the 649 model.

a. Because, if you read me, I also wrote that I read it in a book, which I can't find anymore by the way, asked the wife, said she has no clue

i think enzo ferrari wore sunglasses with many reasons already given out however, its just that he just wore them much more often after the sad passing of his first born, alfredo ferrari

I thought Blutch was kind of charming, actually.

I suspect English is not his first language, so he may have been tripped up by that from the beginning, and then things went downhill from there.....

My Persol reference was in jest, though. Very few pictures of Enzo that I've seen show him wearing Persols, which have a distinctive and unique "silver arrow" motif on the hinge and stem.
