The forums would have dealt with this level of traffic far worse 10 months ago. We made a lot of improvements last year to help the forums withstand the level of traffic that we get around F1 events (which is why you shouldn't see the forums go completely offline for an hour or more as happened in the first half of 2012), but the peak level of traffic which the forums get has risen again during that time so there's a certain element of having had had to run just to stand still.
We've got more technical improvements planned this year, so hopefully we can outpace the growth of the spike in traffic which hits us around testing and F1 weekends.
As Buttoneer suggested earlier in this thread, though, if you want to discuss the live goings on during practice then you certainly have the option of the chat panel beneath the AUTOSPORT Live coverage rather than hammering refresh on the forums. You can log into this with your forum ID, and your comments will appear with your forum name.
There's no reduction in traffic when a test takes place on a working day. If anything, we get slightly MORE traffic as a lot of people read AUTOSPORT when their bosses would probably rather they did some work!

We've got some problems with our data centre network which our development team are looking into, but there might not be anything they can do until our hosting service manage to fix the problems on their end.
Maybe we should just be thankful that this isn't a Grand Prix weekend...

This place has slowed down to a crawl compared to what it used to be. I can open multiple pages from other places(even ones with plenty of multimedia) in the same time it takes for a single page of the Autosport forum to display. Its not anything that is exclusive to high-traffic F1 weekends or anything. This is an everyday problem.
I wish I had some contribution on how to fix the situation, but I know very little about this sort of thing. I just wanted to at least report the issue.

EDIT: And I say say this, the forum seems to be working at a decent speed. I'm not sure what it is, but I've had lots of problems coming here in recent times.
EDIT2: Forgot to mention, one of the worst things is when submitting posts. It often takes ages.

While we've made various improvements to the performance of the forum in the last year, the level of traffic to the forum has been growing just as fast any sort of extra capacity that these improvements have opened up. It's clear that we've taken these improvements as far as they can go and that we need to have a complete rebuild of the forum. We've been looking into this for some time and I hope to be able to make an announcement soon which includes some sort of rough timescale.

Are you sure it isn't because you've been outsourcing your IT to McLaren?I've merged these threads to avoid the forum getting too cluttered (as they were all on the same subject) and so that I only have to put an answer in one place...

Hopefully including better arrangements for posting images or even just proper guidance and support?
