Collective rating would turn out really predictable, really, cause all the idiotic opinions would cancel each other out.

Not necessarily - the folks on here are collectively way more knowledgeable than any journos and we are more objective. We would give the midfield and guys at the back a fair shake - which is the main area where the journos fall down.

Doubt it. If this topic is any indication then the general view from those who moan about the ratings seems to be: don't like driver X, he's rated too highly, journalist ridiculously biased; but love driver y, he's rated too lowly, journalist ridiculously biased. I don't see any better judgement coming from these folks somehow! :D

Those who post would not be the full set of those who vote - and as someone already said the biased would probably cancel each other out to a large extent.

Not so sure. Collectively these lists on THIS thread are very predictable.

An average of those would turn out to be something like

1. Alonso
2. Vettel
3. Hamilton
4. Räikkönen
5. Hulkenberg
6. Button
7. Webber
8. Perez
9. Schumacher
10. Rosberg

No sign of giving guys at the back a fair shake OVERALL (some people do, but collectively, no). Hell, a lot of people even insist on including Massa there somewhere. In any case the, I believe the list above would prove out to be at least 90% correct in the names included, but I'm not sure about the order. And who really cares about the guys who place outside the top 10?

These lists are for entertainment, people take them way to seriously. :smoking:

and the driver ratings from italian autosprint:

Grosjean gets a 6 in Monaco for what?!!!!! Crashing into Schumacher and taking Kamui out?

Hopeless again.

I like the "fast car bias" that pollutes every one of these.

The anti-Button sentiment on this forum would be amusing if it weren't pathetic. Finshed the season 2 points behind Hamilton? Dreadful, send him out to drive a milk-float somewhere, how dare a driver that bad win 3 GPs and be robbed of a couple of others by team cocks-up...

to be fair, he bounced off Alonso, who pulled his car on him, though I must add before I get slaughtered, I don't think it was intentional from Alonso.

but yeah, the fast car bias is funny, see Karthikeyan, only 4 and 5 scores  and Pic gets a 6 for his great hungarian showing, etc...
but I found it interesting that an italian paper found Vettel better on average than Alonso.

Could it be that the Italians are getting a little bit frustrated with Alonso's lack of championships and they are sending him a little bit of a message?

Quite probable. As it can't be the teams at fault, it must be the driver.

Reminds me of my wife. If we start a trip two hours late because she' unable to decide on her outfit, then I make up 1 hour of that on the road, it's still my fault that we don't arrive in time. :D

Button was ok, but he didn't really deserve to be within 50 points of Hamilton.

That doesn't reflect the true story does it though? It's like saying Rosberg dominated Schumacher all season this year. Both Schumacher and Hamilton where plagued by reliability issues all season long, while their team-mates on the other hand not so much.

Hamilton could have easily won four more races than he actually did, Button on the other hand didn't look like winning any other race apart from the ones he won, that too being the best car in those conditions.

Jenson Button 4th?
Michael Schumacher not in the top 10?

Ruins the credibility of the list

Yep, well he is British who´s readers are mostly British - you can´t bite hand thet feed you ;). These ratings are like music reviews, everyone can do those and put it in the internet...
