I actualy like the P1 with Mat Gallagher and Tom Belighton. It's entertaining and not too technical.

seconded. Puts a smile on my face to watch their stream during the race as well. Matt’s impassioned allegiance to Ferrari is one the most hilarious sources of mass schaedenfreude, as his reactions to Ferrari’s various mid-race gaffes see him collapsing or exiting the room in frustration while co-host Tom Bellingham gleefully laughs.

Chasin' the Racin' - Still my favourite even though we lost founder and all round nice bloke Chrissy Rouse at Donington during BSB Race 3 October last year.

Dom and Chrissy's sister Grace are doing a great job along with co-hosting bike racers Joe Akroyd ( knows his history ), Christian Iddon ( BSB front runner ) and Josh Corner .

This week, part 1 of 2 with ex 500 cc GP rider John Hopkins aka Hopper .  1 hr 47 mins of out and out entertainment and absolute honesty

The Herbie Blash episode of beyond the grid is excellent this week. A really good listen. Amazing he’s been involved with f1 for over 50 years

The latest Motor Sport Magazine Podcast from their 'Engineering the Greats' series with Tony Southgate is absolutely brilliant (all from the series have been good TBH).

Fascinating stories and insight from probably the most varied design career in motor-sport history.

If you have even a passing interest in the history of the sport then it is highly recommended.

Regards Mike

I listen to them all and largely enjoy them. My only frustration is that in a landscape of plentiful motorsport audio content, the MM podcasts (These Rob Widdows ones especially) seem a little left-behind. They sound as though they are recorded inside an oil barrell and they seem hell bent of sticking to a set time and question list which makes them feel a bit clunky. Perhaps i've been spoiled by the longer-form stuff, but letting the guest talk and ramble off on tangents often produces the best stories.

Gary Anderson has a bad case of lip-slap and nasal congestion in the latest Race podcast. Wonder if he's a heavy smoker?

I gave up trying to listen to those in my car due to the poor sound quality.

Good recommendation, thanks!

SVG seems so much more relaxed with non-Australian media

I keep seeing youtube shorts of a podcast by Eddie Jordan and DC, which sounds pretty damn fun from what I've seen. I can't see full episodes anywhere though.

Anderson always sounds like he's chewing on beef jerky. I can't stand Scott Mitchell's CONSTANT loud swallowing and irregularal breathing patterns which make him sound like he's yawning.

I also happen to suffer from misophonia  :stoned:

All of Peter Windsor's long form YouTube live streams are available as a podcast now. Its called Short Corners with Peter Windsor.

Peter has spent the last 2 years talking about how it was a bad decision for George and Lewis to be on the same team. But Charles and Lewis ? Oh hey. No problem this is so great

I walk about 4km each morning so listen to The Race and Missed APex and both are starting to bug me a little.

The Race drag a topic on for far too long and would be better off discussing more aspects of the race or preview. They focus on this minutiae and most of it is just guestimating anyways.

Missed Apex is also suffering from the same problem to some degree but their bigger issue is the guest line up. Matt is the number 2 and does a great job but he E_N_U_N_C_I_A_T_E_S very d-e-l-i-b-e-r-a-t-l-y  which is fine on his own but the two female guests, sorry cannot remember their names, one is smoke show english lass and one a canadian, also e-m-p-h-a-s-i-s-e-s every s-y-l-l-a-b-l-e that makes the show very hard to listen to.  Spanners really needs to tell these three to GTFO with it or restrict the show to just one of them at a time because two or more is ridiculously laboured.

It used to be my favorite podcast until after 2021. They just never got over it and especially philpot and Alex can never hold their hatred for Max. It used to be a lot more neutral. For the same reason I don’t listen to Dutch podcasts as it’s just a Max lickfest. Diaries of a ceo used to be an amazing insight though.

To this day, I still don't understand why Spanners gambled so heavily on Bradley and Alex. Brad especially seemed to just drive engagement on social media through toxicity. From memory, the writing team all quit because of his behaviour.

I believe one of original founders also left because of their excessive fanboyism.

Wonder how much money these digital outlets can make. The Race has a healthy lineup of staff…

I’m desperate for a new Mark Hughes podcast or YouTube.
The ones he did with Roebuck were the very finest.
I’d actually PAY to hear/see something like that again.

They're right about 2021 though and they are right about the way Max drives, he is a terrible, terrible sport. Alex and Brad are far more listenale than anyone else they have on. Their post season pods have been really bad, no focus, too much going on about spanners theory on pay drivers etc. It feels like they've lost their way, they are becoming boring on broader topics and not changing but the topics enough.

I still think The Race F1 podcast is the current gold standard, even if it’s not quite on a par with some of the stuff we’ve had in the past. Ed Straw ties it all together well as host and they have a bit of a who’s who of good F1 journalists to cycle through - Mark Hughes, Scott Mitchell, Ben Anderson, now Jon Noble. Yes they can sometimes labour a topic to the point where you think ‘just move on, please’ and tend to retread the same ground over and over, but I still find them good to listen to and think because a lot of them are actually there every race weekend they have a good insight into what’s going on in the paddock. It’s a very solid, reliable 8/10s all round and alongside Bring Back V10s with many of the same guys, they pretty much cover all I want from an F1 podcast.

I’ve tried Missed Apex, P1 etc and they’re just not for me, I don’t quite speak that language.

My favourite has always been The Race MotoGP podcast but I’ve really felt they’ve struggled with that in recent years. I’m maybe in a minority in that I don’t mind Simon Patterson, much as he can be a bit harsh I appreciate that he’s there in the paddock every weekend, knows most of the characters and isn’t afraid to share stuff with the audience even if it makes him unpopular. But I’m not sold on Matt Beer as a replacement for Toby Moody, and much as she seems nice enough I feel like Megan White added absolutely nothing to it this year, she just doesn’t have enough knowledge to add anything to discussions, even admitting she’d only started watching MotoGP a couple of years ago. I used to find Toby a bit annoying, now I kinda long for those days.

Seconded. They were a victory of substance over style. Hesitant interviewers, over-ran the time, and utterly brilliant.

To me, during the season, they are all focussing too much on small things and dragging topics on and on and on and not discussing the actual racing and races enough.

Edd Straw is brilliant in the hosting role. Smooth but just funny and critical enough to represent the internal voice of the listener.

I'm one who listens to The-Race podcasts, sometimes they can be better than others, just depends on the topic, what news is out, and which combination is on it whatnot, but generally solid and good for my walk to work.

I can listen to Back V10s anytime, really enjoy it, and quite frankly it's timeless, which can be an issue with more current ones if you miss one the next might maybe the previous redundant.

BBV10s is one I can re-listen to certain topics too, perfect for putting on in the background whilst cooking.

I'd compel any of you to listen to And Collossaly That's History! Also from The Race, Matt Bishop and Richard Williams host it, and both have a wicked knowledge of motor racing history which they delve into throughout the episodes.

Similar to BBV10s in some ways, but it tends to delve further into the past

It's really good and does deep dives into interesting subjects.

Matt Bishop has an annoying habit of saying something, saying what it means, and then saying something else, and saying what it means.

Kinda like this:

You can buy merch (merchandise) from our web shop including BRM (British Racing Motors) shirts.

If it was written down, you'd be asking, why all the parentheses? For someone with a career in comms, it's a bit weird.

And stop going on about "anorak facts" please. That got tiresome fast.

I agree about The Race. I prioritise listening to their stuff over over podcasts.

I listened to their 2025 preview today and urgh, i dunno, it was better than some recent ones but man they drag out a topic and say the same thing in a different way. SMM is bad for this, just too much verbal repetition, someone needs to tell these pods to do more topics and not beat a subject to death.

You're only saying that because you consider all those facts germane, interesting and just the right level of detail :)

Anyone going to The-Race live shows next week? I went to their first live show in London a couple of years ago.

They've added an extra date in Birmingham this year, which is closer to home, and I'll be there too!

I did have a look, but unfortunately price of travel and hotel would make it way too excessive for me.

If one ended up being closer to home I'd consider going.

Regard Alfisti's point, I do get that too sometimes, can be a bit wordy and drag out topics, I think sometimes they possibly feel they need to ensure a topic is a minimum amount of time, but having a few quickfire topics and covering more in general would be fine.

I.e 3 bigger chats, then 5 quickfire speed topics, rather than trying to get 4-5 same length topics in

Richard and Matt lost my attention when speaking about the movie GrandPrix. Richard kept mentioning the driving coach was “Bob Bon-Durrant” as if he was a hoity toity public school boy.

Then Matt went salivating on for ages about how great the men looked in the film with details only someone of that bent would say. Then totally dismissed Françoise Hardy, Jessica Walter and Eva Marie and I was like REALLY DUDE? We don’t want to hear your predilections every second sentence…

I'm not sure it 100% works as the risk is that it tips into cosy nostalgia and slightly superficial recounting of what we already know (they're not the kind of people who will say everything you know is wrong, here's why Nuvolari was OVERRATED). I think Matt Bishop is temperamentally willing to be provocative but he's not slaughtering sacred cows.

However when Richard Williams is on a subject he has written about or Matt Bishop on something he has professional experience of, they are very good. They don't necessarily fit the podcast but Bishop has a lot of stories and insights about F1 from 2007-18 while he ran McLaren's PR that I haven't heard anywhere else.

Noble is horrible, most biased autosport reporter I can think of. I’ve always found The Race quite balanced but I fear that’s about to change.
