What the F1 lacks is torque.At 2.4 litres you can't get blood out of a stone.AFAIK the torque starts at 14000 rpm.It would be a dog in traffic ! Unless you and the car get the start exactly right,it stalls ,or if not it's already in need of the next gear,then the next etc.

JOE BOSWORTH-Can you use your formula to give a "power" figure from known quarter mile and vehicle weight ?

You can by the aid of google earth and some good amount of speculations make a good estimate on the time on this video..

Looking at the video and that it seems to do 0-250 in 7sec .. My guess would be in the high 7sec range. Quite impressive.

Using the above video and Google maps, some maths and a stopwatch, I make it around 8.5s for the standing quarter.

402 metres from the 4th slot on the grid is roughly where the chevrons on the pit exit narrows to a thin line. (41.567378, 2.258908)

Taking it to a drag strip is the same as taking it to any other circuit. You configure it for the conditions it will run in.

You'll get some if you set it up for a Drag strip, but it'll be useless as an F1. 8.3-8.5 while weaving about with a slight tow... Thems the figures week in week out.

It is a well-known fact that a good driver using a manual dog box can change gear just as fast as a semi-auto box.

Somebody somewhere is going to bet his buddy what's faster, so they'll do a Google search for that fact, find your post on this Technical Forum, and declare it to be true. You know that don't you?

Who in their right mind accepts anything that is preceded by 'it is a well known fact that ...'

... oh wait, this is the internet ...

I know this is a bit off topic, but when we talk about a veyron and drag racing, I always love tot tell the example of how quick a top fueller is.

If a Veyron has a long run up and crosses the start line of a 1/4 mile drag strip at 200mph, and a top fueller leaves from a standing start at the same time, the top fueller will reach the finish line first. :eek:

Yes, for sure. Shows up a lot of very optimistic HP wishes. But I do need real, on the start line, weights.

I read it as meaning if you prepared a F1 car to run at a dragstrip,without structural changes,but fitting any available gear ratios,engine managemant tuning,low fuel load,super sticky rears etc ,you would get a better time.How much better...thats the burning question.

OK try 1120kg,16 seconds,rear drive ,weight 60% front,4 speed street gearing,3.1 litre.

Probably doing 90 mph at the end of the qtr.

Sounds close to what I took a season class championship with at Granatelli´s Half Day strip north of Chicago. That was 1954 by memory. First strip out of California. I will have to go find the trophy to get the date.
