What a joke. I hate the FIA with a passion.

I had more enjoyment of those 2 laps that I've had in all of 2012. Shows you how horrible of a job FIA/FOM are doing with this sport.

Really odd that they started that race with only half the grid lined up...

The current pitlane entrance is dagerous. A lot. If someone fails to get it right -let´s say your damaged wing comes off and you skid on it-, you crash 290 km/h straight on with a tyre wall. No good idea. The wall should dissapear until the place where the pit limiter is engaged.

Whatever though, that pitlane entrance IS interlagos. It loses a ton of character without it. It is what separates Interlagos from every other race track in the world.

And despite the same thing contributing to Ronnie Peterson death two years before.

That layout removes the Senna S which everyone loves. Not to mention Curva del Sol half of which is under the pit lane and other access roads. They made changes for a reason.

But hey, lets get rid of some track in favour of a really long straight... :p

Then put in another Senna S curve that goes from the bottom of the hill back up to the main straight!

its nice to see big differences in performance aspects, specially if they balance out, or give drama...

It's odd because from 1996-98 they used a much safer pit entrance, with a little chicane on the way in, about halfway along that last little straight.

Trying to find some better video of it, but as you can see at the beginning of this the wall is continuous round the final kink, as the entrance was earlier.

Try here http://youtu.be/YgKki8uLtOw?t=1m You can see the white line for the entrance and the tyre wall halfway down the straight.

An easy flat out entry where there´s no skill required to gain/lose time adds nothing. Add that is mighty dangerous if something goes wrong. The circuit is awesome but pit entry doesn´t have anything to do with that frankly.

The big change will actually be built next year with the new premises on the other straight to fulfil FIA's standards regarding size of pits, garages and specially — as always! — space for all the PR stuff that is FIA's actual business even though some think racing it is... ;)

Why the change to bland tarmac on the outside of turn 1? There's no need for it at all as far as I'm concerned. It's now nothing more than a big carpark on the outside of a corner, as with what seems like is going to end up happening to every corner on every track on the planet.

It's happening to F1 circuits as well as most of the FIA Grade 2 tracks in Europe and Asia, but mercifully 99% of the others are perfectly safe from this abomination.

The change is to prevent cars from rejoining and bringing debris to the track.

Instead they get to go off track with no penalty to the car or tyres and carry on full pelt until they think "i'd better slow down so I don't gain any sort of time or position advantage".

Like I said, it might stop things like this happening in that corner:

But it's a shame to see another stretch of tarmac.

I'm sure i can remember the Senna S being a bit of a problem child when the weather turns wet, always used to get rivers run across the track around the 2nd apex, surely replace grass with tarmac will exacerbate this problem as its far less permeable. I don't see how the old grass run off was massively dangerous or dangerous at all, not really.

I can just see drivers trying to overoptimistically hang on around the outside of T1 before realising it won't work and short cutting across the new run off. Not too impressed with this one, some tarmac run offs i can completely understand but not this one.

I never said it was a good reason to tarmac over the grass, just it was a reason :p

Must have also been a pain for them to maintain the grass when cars run wide at that corner at almost every race event they hold.

That was Fisi's fault, he rejoined the track carelessly. Grass or no grass would've made no difference.

I'm not so sure of that, he didn't seem to have much control as he bounced down the hill.

The new tarmac runoff possibly saved a few drivers from retirement in Sunday. Another thing of course is if it was a good thing.

But I think there should've been e.g. similar humps than in Monza or the T2 kerb should've been longer. The T2 kerb ended so that it enabled drivers to get away from the runoff in the shortest way, thus not losing much time.

Also, Di Resta found the new run-off with tech-pro barriers after Juncao to be to his liking.

SAFER barriers, weren't they?

Good question. I shall look it up.

Come to think of it, they did look metallic and shiny rather than the Tech-pro 'soft-play' centre.

FIA's track map says it's a SAFER barrier.
