I was watching this excellent video on youtube when i saw one Boeing 747 from BOAC (sponsor of the race). My question is where was that plane parked? Is that an airport or BOAC brought it for advertising or something? Its also intriguing that according to wikipedia (i know...) BOAC received its first 747 on april 22 1970 and the race was on april 12.
To be honest, it looks like an advertising hoarding to me.
Nearest / only airport near to Brands in 1970 capable of taking a 747 would've been Heathrow and, pre M25, I can't see how they'd have got a big plane like that over to Kent. Think Doug Nye might've been working at Brands then so may he'll chip in.

Now, now, play nicely! Are you sure it's tobacco in your cigarettes?
Anyway, I remember this very well. They landed the 747 at Biggin Hill and taxied it to Brand Hatch. It's a BOAC/British Airways tradition that was revived for the Olympics - see this documentary.

I was wondering why the Hammersmith Flyover was restricted to a single lane
