Maserati 250F
BRM P 261
Lotus 33
Eagle Weslake ´67
Ferrari 312 F1 ´67
Lotus 72
Brabham BT44
Lotus 79

From this list, I would choose the 250F and the P261 as my all time favs though

Slighty outside the terms of ref - I also like the early Indy STP Turbine, the chubby one with the offset. And my favourite sports race of all time for sheer beauty is the Maser 300S.

I would die a truly happy man to have the chance to drive a few of the listed. OK well maybe if Uma Thurman came calling then I would die happy . . . My choices do reflect somewhat when I became interested in F1 (not in order):

Brabham BT33 – Ford/Cosworth
Eagle T1 – Gurney Weslake
Ferrari 312 B2 (not the sport car nose)
Ferrari 312/67
Jordan 7-Up car
Lotus 33 – Coventry/Climax
Lotus 49
Lotus 72
Lotus 79
Matra MS 120D
McLaren M19A – Ford/Cosworth (esp. in Sunoco/Penske colors)
Mercedes Benz W196 (Streamlined and not)

As far as sports car go, is there one that matches a Ferrari P3/4? The Maserati 300S Tipo 58 and Sauber C9 do come close.

Considering all the pre-war/post-war options, if I had to pick ONE car, it would be the 1967 Eagle. And it's not "Westlake", it's "Weslake". :)

IMO the Ferrari Sharknose and the front engined Scarab were not only best looking GP cars of all time, but may have been the best looking racecars of all time.

Without doubt, it's ALFA ROMEO 182.

Great thread - glad it was resurrected - had a smile on my face reading all the posts, nodding at so many that coincide with my views. Funny that when I picture their beauty they are often in a certain scenario:

Ferrari 156 (Sharknose) especialy with number '36' on it, at Monaco:
Ferrari 312 (with the great Chris Amon at the wheel - anywhere!)
1988 Benetton (B188?) - great paint job too
Mike Hawthorn's '58 Ferrari - Spa
Dan's Eagle Weslake (Spa again - where else!)
Vanwall (not the Monaco short nose though - coming past the pits at Aintree)
Mercedes Streamliners (coming down the pit straight at Rheims)

I also think that these had a cetain attractiveness:
The 'Hondola' - was it the RA301? At Monza with Big John coming around the Parabolica - great exhaust pipes!
The short lived Onyx I recall looked good - nice paint job
V16 BRM (can't help picturing it on the Silverstone grid - alone and stationary!
Lotus 49 - 'out of the box' at Zandvoort
The 58/59 Coopers - plus was there a later 'lowline' model?

Oddly enough, after my trip round part of the Aintree circuit today (see separate 'Aintree' thread) I took a stroll around a shopping mall in Warrington and what do you expect to find next to Superdrug and River Island? Yes I nearly fell over a Fernando Alonso Renault F1 car!  Part of a PR stunt for a new Clio which had turned up late so the F1 car was on its own! Was it beautiful?? Hmmm - certainly it had a certain something, not sure it was beauty though. Certainly purposeful and impressive.

Oh, can't leave out the Chaparral 2F,  and what about the big orange McLaren Can-Am beauties?

Ahhh. Great memories. Lovely cars.
