Did Vijay stole Joe´s wife/girlfriend or what?

Saward is dedicating since months now columns on the demise of Kingfisher airlines and the FI F1 team. He really seems to dislike VM. (not that I am a big fan of him)
The team seems to be doing well lately.. a bit down from last year but still going strong.

Anyone know..whether there is a fued between these two?

Maybe it has something to do with a love towards Fernandes thereby his Air Asia airlines vs Kingfisher of Vijay Mallya?

Joe always focuses on the financial side of the sport, and if one team's owners are in financial troubles then it is definitely worth reporting. It's all over the business news, just because only Joe in the F1 media reports it doesn't mean he has some vendetta against Vijay.

And Mallaya/FI trying to screw Caterham (Joe's part time employer) may have something to do with it too.

Joe has always been open about his relations with Caterham and Fernandes

I trust these won't influence his opinion as a F1 journalist, 25 years in the paddock as an independent journo counts for something
at least for me

I do agree that his liking of Tonio Liuzzi seemed to lead to some very critical articles about Mallya.

Its quite clear for anyone to see. Btw its not a problem if he bad mouths someone on his personal blog as he is entitled to his opinions as anyone else.

Indeed. I do not see problem with that - he has not hidden his Caterham position, but VM's situation is worth reporting, just like AP and Bloomberg did, and any other business site.

His (Joe's) addition to Tonio is what I have failed to witness so far. But even if true, this is his personal blog. The paid PDF magazine has nothing like that inside.

I don't think he is honest enough about it and he is not honest as soon as something remotely involves Caterham. He will gladly write a lot of crap about Force India or Lotus Renault for example. I enjoy a lot of the things he write though, but regarding some things he is brilliant so I think he should do this part of his writing better. Come to think of it I think it would do him a lot of good to write those parts in a better way.

Having lived in India I can state that the number of routes where the two airlines would compete are pretty close to zero. Kingfisher mainly flies domestic flights in India where Air Asia doesn't fly at all, and for a good reason. Things are tough for all domestic airlines in India due to the government owned Air India making monumental losses that the government just eats up year after year. Like any industry in India it's heavily regulated and pretty corrupt too. Mallya has also a beverage business under Kingfisher brand and that does pretty well.

While various financial troubles that could affect F1 are well worth reporting, it does seem that a few people in the paddock have rubbed him the wrong way. He's bit of a touchy fellow.

I wonder if it is actually that Joe Saward is a rather good journalist....and, as a fan of F1, is interested to consider the future of Force India?

Joe didn't actually write this piece http://www.firstpost...um=cat_politics , so other people seem to feel the same way as he does.

The facts are that Mallya's money underpins the race team, and most of Force India's sponsors are Mallya-controlled companies. Unfortunately, it looks like Mallya is also responsible for Kingfisher's debts, and the airline has apparently been grounded today by Indian Authorities.....owing c. £1bn. Sahara also has a bit of a cash issue, as again Joe has pointed out. Raising concerns about the F1 team's future against that background doesn't exactly register as a feud......just fair comment.

Saward is a Caterham man. Caterham and Fernandes have multiple issues with Force India and Mallya. Caterham have nabbed many Force India personnel but Force India still carried on strong. Then there was the court case about Aerolab. Then you have the fact that Fernandes and Mallya are both in the Asian Airline business, so I'm guessing there's some animosity there too.

I doubt either teams are the best of friends, at least not with the higher ups. Also there's probably some jealousy as to how Force India have rebuilt themselves and turned into a competitive team whilst Caterham hasn't improved in three years. Loads of reasons, really.

Most people here also don't like Force India, although the current drivers have changed some attitudes. Most people here and the media also have a love fest for Caterham and Fernandes, if it wasn't for Raikkonnen then Lotus F1 (ex-Renault) would still be getting lots of hate from the media/fans because of the whole Lotus fiasco. F1 fans and media are very fickle, small minded people. Too many stupid things really.

I'd take Saward more seriously, and no doubt Mallya has financial issues, but he's been on their case for as long as I can remember. Plus he was horribly wrong about McLaren/Mercedes/Hamilton/Perez saga too.

Then there's the whole Liuzzi thing, he's a journalist with set agendas. That's clear to see.

I really don't think I like Joe Saward. He just comes across as very arrogant, especially in the replies he gives to the comments on his blogs. Or is that just me?

Joe Saward seems to hate a lot of people, so I'm not surprised. I used to be pretty impartial towards the guy, but I just can't stand him now. Whenever I read one his articles/blog posts, it just reeks of arrogance and negativity.

But you can't possibly be in a position to say that or give an opinion on anything as your not a qualified journalist who attends every race.

Agreed with the above.

Sometimes I read his blog followed by comments, his one word 'matter of fact' answers/sarcastic attitude come through quite heavily, which in turn, tarnishes my opinion of his blogs unfortunately. Not sure what his problem with Mallya is, but as pointed out, the Liuzzi saga was borderline comical...

What has that got to do with anything? Saward is very knowledgeable about his chosen area of expertise, and has access to people within the sport that most of us do not. However, that does not excuse his 'it's my blog and you're all wrong' attitude that prevails at times. I enjoy his insight, but more and more find his tone irritating and abrasive. As for Mallya, he is simply reporting the facts, which is no bad thing.

** I suspect I missed the sarcasm there......sorry!**

Whenever i read anything by him, which i seldom bother doing these days, i'm always left with the mental image of not a man sat his keyboard typing prose, but a man sat at a bench grinder, axe in hand.
