Does anybody know of other movie archive apart from the most excellent f-1.ru MPEG Archive? I know of f1files.com (movies.cjb.net), and how that site disappeared and resurfaced, but as you know, there is very little content there at the moment (if Jarno reads this, maybe he can fill us in). I also know of Farzad's Gallery, but he has bandwith problems unfortunately. So are there other large-ish collections on the web?

It sucks that f1files.com lost their server because those clips were by FAR the best, and he had clips on EVERYTHING. The Russian site is the best I've found, even though the clips aren't of the best quality and the archive isn't as extensive. But, I guess I can't complain, it's better than nothing.

There is an Italian site with footage I didn't even encounter at the F1Files. Although their collection isn't extensive, it's worth visiting:

Thanks Vunz, although the site doesn't appear to be accessible...

Here is what I' ve found so far:

The Russian F-1 Project: http://www.f-1.ru/video/index_e.html

Farzad's Gallery: http://www.FarzadsF1Gallery.com/

The F1 Files: http://www.thef1files.com/

Racefreak Online : http://racefreak.cjb.net/

Does anyone have any other suggestions? Does someone have a backup of (some of) the F1 Files site?

Sorry, didn't know that.

BTW I think there are a few links on Farzad's site to multimedia sites.

The F1 files is up again - sort of. There's a beatiful compilation of the Australian GP available for download. If you look at the intro, these kind of previews we always get on dutch tv. Cool huh?

Vunz & ebe:

There wouldn't be any way you could put some of those on the web?

I'm trying to build an archive of my own and could use pretty much anything not on the mentioned sites. F1.ru is fantastic, but I've found several movies which carried the F1.ru logo, but weren't available at F1.ru any more, so even there files have disappeared. I was just about to begin collecting when F1files.com vanished :(

Oh, and Vunz, that Italian site is gone again ;)

Does anyone know how to convert F1.ru's full race videos into a VCD?

I downloaded the entire Australian race, all 3 asfs. I joined part 2 with part 3 as the podium was small file.

So now I have 2 asf files
I converted part 1.asf into part 1.mpg

It went from 100 megs to over 500 megs
But how do I convert it/burn it as a VCD so I can play it in my DVD player?

thanx

Dinky, which movies do you need? I have all the race highlights and all the driver tributes that www.thef1files.com ever put up, I just don't have the small clips.

I could use pretty much anything, but don't trouble yourself, I guess I'll have to wait for more archives to show up, I couldn't ask you to put your entire archive up on the web ;) Thanks anyway

The problem is: it is hard to find a server which provides 500Mb or so for free, but we are talking of about 5Gb or so. The other thing is, this server has to provide UNLIMITED bandwith so that people can download these mpgs and avis fast enough.

This is the reason why the 'F1files' site has only a few files there right about now.

Even if we find such a server, the other thing is, we must ask the person of 'f1files' - who ran the site - if he allows us to put the files there, otherwise it would be piracy.

Maybe we find a way.

NRY,

how do you join the files together and convert them to MPEG's?

I too would love to know how to convert the files into VCD format. I just hate watching the races on a computer screen.

Anyone know of any programs that do this easily for the computer illiterate?

Does anyone know a good site/s where i can find clips of F1 footage? I saw the unofficial jv site and it had some cool in-car footage, which we don't get in Australia.

NYR, i used TMPGe too, and i had no problems putting it on a VCD.

I think your problem might be in the burning process. Get the "NERO" software and it'll make the whole thing easier for you.

Bummer now that the f1mpeg archive is down, no more full races. And i already had the first third of Spain 01. :(

How about Adaptec 5 ? Would that work?
And it is a bummer that the site is gone :(

Not sure about adaptec 5.

I already had Nero, so as soon as i read that you could use that i stopped reading about other buring programs. Sorry! :)

You need a program that automatically burns all the VCD system files (so that your player recognises it as a VCD). Every VCD has about 2mb's of these system files, and Nero simply adds them to the cd, it's like a template. If adaptec 5 offers you the option of burning a VCD, then it might work. If it doesn't, there might be a way to add the VCD sytem files yourself, but you'll have to read up a bit more on that.

I'll have a read of the help site myself, and see if i can make heads and tails of it. I'll get back to ya.

NYR, have you tried it out yet? It shouldn't be any harder than opening the template and adding the desired files onto the disc. If you're still having problems after burning the disc, it's probably something that i can't help you with.

I was just thinking it could be as simple as the discs you're using won't play in your dvd player, or something like that. It happens with CD players, so i suppose it could happen to DVD players too.

tried burning Australia part 1 as a VCS with adaptec

didn't work

Adaptec 5 however did burn Metallica at Woodstock 99 with no problem.

www.crashin.nu has some very good clips that I haven't seen before like Manfred Winklehock's massive shunt when his F2 car took off in the air at the old Nurburgring in 1982. But the site seems to be down at the moment.:(
