Here is what I' ve found so far:
The Russian F-1 Project: http://www.f-1.ru/video/index_e.html
Farzad's Gallery: http://www.FarzadsF1Gallery.com/
The F1 Files: http://www.thef1files.com/
Racefreak Online : http://racefreak.cjb.net/
Does anyone have any other suggestions? Does someone have a backup of (some of) the F1 Files site?

Sorry, didn't know that.
BTW I think there are a few links on Farzad's site to multimedia sites.

There wouldn't be any way you could put some of those on the web?
I'm trying to build an archive of my own and could use pretty much anything not on the mentioned sites. F1.ru is fantastic, but I've found several movies which carried the F1.ru logo, but weren't available at F1.ru any more, so even there files have disappeared. I was just about to begin collecting when F1files.com vanished

Oh, and Vunz, that Italian site is gone again ;)

I downloaded the entire Australian race, all 3 asfs. I joined part 2 with part 3 as the podium was small file.
So now I have 2 asf files
I converted part 1.asf into part 1.mpg
It went from 100 megs to over 500 megs
But how do I convert it/burn it as a VCD so I can play it in my DVD player?
thanx

I could use pretty much anything, but don't trouble yourself, I guess I'll have to wait for more archives to show up, I couldn't ask you to put your entire archive up on the web ;) Thanks anyway

The problem is: it is hard to find a server which provides 500Mb or so for free, but we are talking of about 5Gb or so. The other thing is, this server has to provide UNLIMITED bandwith so that people can download these mpgs and avis fast enough.
This is the reason why the 'F1files' site has only a few files there right about now.
Even if we find such a server, the other thing is, we must ask the person of 'f1files' - who ran the site - if he allows us to put the files there, otherwise it would be piracy.
Maybe we find a way.

how do you join the files together and convert them to MPEG's?
I too would love to know how to convert the files into VCD format. I just hate watching the races on a computer screen.
Anyone know of any programs that do this easily for the computer illiterate?

I think your problem might be in the burning process. Get the "NERO" software and it'll make the whole thing easier for you.
Bummer now that the f1mpeg archive is down, no more full races. And i already had the first third of Spain 01.

How about Adaptec 5 ? Would that work?
And it is a bummer that the site is gone

I already had Nero, so as soon as i read that you could use that i stopped reading about other buring programs. Sorry!

You need a program that automatically burns all the VCD system files (so that your player recognises it as a VCD). Every VCD has about 2mb's of these system files, and Nero simply adds them to the cd, it's like a template. If adaptec 5 offers you the option of burning a VCD, then it might work. If it doesn't, there might be a way to add the VCD sytem files yourself, but you'll have to read up a bit more on that.
I'll have a read of the help site myself, and see if i can make heads and tails of it. I'll get back to ya.

I was just thinking it could be as simple as the discs you're using won't play in your dvd player, or something like that. It happens with CD players, so i suppose it could happen to DVD players too.

tried burning Australia part 1 as a VCS with adaptec
didn't work
Adaptec 5 however did burn Metallica at Woodstock 99 with no problem.
