Hey guys - what's the track you just kinda own the competition at? And what track do you find difficult?

Right now, I'm playing F1 2012 - and I can just about win, or not - so for me, it's easy to see in which I beat the game easily. At Monaco, I just obliterated the field - and it has happened in other racing games too. Maybe the makers didn't want to make this track too difficult for newcomers. Gilles Villeneuve circuit I find easy too, I can really push the car - same as at Brazil and Melbourne. I love those tracks.

On the contrary, I find Turkey (not in F1 2012) really difficult, as well as Shanghai and India. I just can't push as hard as I'd like.


Non-F1, I loved Jarama in Grid and just won nearly all online races there.

But this is strange, because these tracks seem not really differ in style.

When playing with my friend...he is unbeatable at Valencia, but absolutely sucks at the Nurburgring (which makes me wonder, because I do well there)

Funny, I don't like Sepang much, because it's just accelerating and heavy braking and some semi blind curves and tight but wide corners I don't like to drive. I find myself never satisfying doing corners correct and always wonder there's much to improve. How ever, I can drive it with various games quite quick.

I don't understand how you can see similarities with Barcelona and Sepang since there are not much. Barcelona is quick, challenging and with fast and semifast curves and few spoiling chicanes. When free testing was still allowed, I don't wonder why drivers and teams liked to go there for testing.

I have driven Nürburgring with Xbox (Forza 4) and PS3 (GT4, GT5) hundreds of laps but still have bit fearing respect on it. Lot of bumps and opposite angle grading curves makes it quite frustrating to drive with unbalanced and fast car. On the otherhand I know that long track quite well after lot of practise.

My best tracks in F1 games always seem to be Budapest, Interlagos, Melbourne, Shanghai, and Spa. Those are my best tracks for sure, but Budapest and Melbourne are without a doubt my absolute best.

I feel like I'm pretty good at Montreal, though I've never been able to tame turn 11. I never go off at turn 11, I just always end up taking a really wide line through it. Luckly I'm pretty fast through the rest of the lap there. Nurburgring (the new one) and Monza are pretty fun tracks that I'm okay on as well.

I used to be okay at Monaco in older games, but as F1 games become more realistic and the streets of Monaco become more and more narrow, I find the track to be a lot harder to drive. Silverstone is in the same boat. I was great at old Silverstone, but the new layout is strangely problematic for me.

As much as I like the layout of the Kuala Lumpur, I've always gone really lousy on it. I'm really awful at Singapore too and don't understand how anyone can go well there, it just feels really miserable to drive on that track.

Honourable mention to Estoril. I used to love racing there in the older games and always did pretty well there. I really miss the track, especially that turn with the HUUUUGE elevation change.

Good:

For real tracks, Road Atlanta, Road America, and Le Mans are probably three of my best. I like Suzuka and Indianapolis as well, but I'm not as fast at either of them as I am the aforementioned three.

For fantasy tracks, Forza 4's Sunset Peninsula is another one of my favourite stomping grounds.

Bad:

For real tracks, I can never seem to wrap my head around the Motegi Twin-Ring, Interlagos, and Singapore's street circuit. Top Gear's test track is not one of my favourites, either.

Can't really think of many fantasy tracks I don't do to well at... some of the layouts on Gran Turismo 5 leave me utterly lost, though.

Used to hate Catalunya and Sebring with a passion, but they've slowly become two of my favourite layouts. Not as quick at either of them as I am at Road Atlanta or Sunset Peninsula, though. Forza 4 needs more F1 tracks.

Best - There's a few tracks I can usually find my way around without too much trouble. I'll limit myself to four. In F1 games these tend to be:

Monza - Love this track, apart from the first chicane. Even though the straights are long, everything flows together very nicely. Especially the Variante Ascari is a real joy to get right.
Interlagos - Another fantastic track as far as I'm concerned. It's short, has a great high speed section and the Ferradura and Laranjinha corners are always great fun.
Spa-Francorchamps - I never get tired of Spa. Even though the last chicane is much less fun than the earlier left-right, right-left version the rest of the track makes up for it in spades. Eau Rouge and the Raidillon are the classics, but Les Combes is almost as much fun as the Variante Ascari mentioned above. Pouhon is another nice one that's always tricky, and the run up from Stavelot through Blanchimont with the forest on the left - good stuff.
Singapore - As an actual race track, I don't like this at all. But in preparation for the 2010 F1 race I sat down to drive it to finally learn how it fit together. It turned out I was quite quick around its twists and turns. I don't go out of my way to select this track, but if it pops up I'll generally do quite well.

Worst - Two come to mind:

Circuit of the Americas - It's not that I'm necessarily bad around these corners, I just can't stand it and tend to lose focus as a result. Turns 6 through 10 are especially grating after the somewhat amusing Maggotts-Backetts-Chapel imitation. Turns 13-15 is another annoying section of twisty turns.
Monaco - I have massive respect for the drivers who go out and do well here in the actual real world. This track is by far my worst. I've probably hit more barriers, broken more front-wings and suspensions here than at all other tracks put together. I don't like switching to the T-cam viewpoint, but I sometimes allow myself to at Monaco. What a track!

Are we talking about Austin? I cursed that new track, but last week I suddenly got into the groove of that idiotic left right session. I don't know how others do it, but after the last corner you take fullspeed, you flick left, downshift, flick right downhshift, brake, downshift again and then accelerate out of the next corner. Ofcourse then you get that bastard of a right kink in second gear that just makes me feel.... aaaargh!

It's not a matter of taste but i'm faster at flowing tracks and slower at stop&go tracks, just the way it is.

I go quite well at Spa, Hokenheim, Silverstone, Valencia, Monza, India, Korea, Brazil.

I absolutly suck at Barcelona, Kuala Lumpur, and specialy, specialy at Monaco. Always crash at the casino, swimimng pool, rascasse..

My best track is easily Monaco, in GPL or any other sim. I just love it and seem to just click there. After that then Adelaide, Suzuka, Tskuba and Motegi are good tracks for me.

Tracks I never seem to do very well at are Spa, le Mans and Nurburg.

I've picked up F1 2012 and this is how I feel:

I utterly love Austin, but it is difficult - I think I've run wide at every corner at some point. I take the Felipe Massa approach to Turn 1 (never the same line twice), while T13-14-15 is very tricky. For some peculiar reason, I'm also very good at Yeongam and Buddh, so it appears I have Sebastian Vettel syndrome. I also, peculiarly, seeing as the track is an insult to the term 'circuit', love Abu Dhabi.

I'm not great at Monaco (I blame using a controller, naturally, definitely not ambition usurping talent) while I also have an inability to do the esses at Suzuka. There's also something about Silverstone; I find some of the corners a little clumsy.

But it's hard to respect a track that dull. In F1 2010, online I won a lot there. Mostly because many people could never get through the first handful of corners without taking themselves and half the field out. But driving wise, I am terrible. Never get a decent setup, and just cannot drive the track right. And with the new chicane, I'm useless there.

The chicane is an abject disgrace, totally ruins the character of the track, actually makes it more unsafe and makes a previously awesome section into a bit as mickey mouse as the new bit at Silverstone!!

Imola in GTR2 was great. Is one of my favorite circuits.

Agreed on Silverstone. Well, the new layout is troublesome, as I was lightning (IMO) at the prior layout.

Mostly play Gran Turismo 5 lately, and I really like the Daytona road circuit. Bit boring of a layout and really not challenging, but I like circuits I usually can win on. Also like Laguna Seca. Not the quickest in most games there, but in GT5, I cannot remember the last time, especially in the karts, that I haven't had a race where I didn't spin that I was a podium finisher online.

I'm not so good in Australia and Monaco...... Monaco I am so bad I had to quit the race cause I just couldnt drive 3 rounds without a crash.... just too tight there xD

Back when I played a lot of GTR2 I was pretty good at Brno and Donington. I usually struggled at Spa a bit and I have a lot of bad memories of Enna Pergusa for whatever reason...

Playing F1 2012 sadly.. (I say sadly as I'd prefer to play GP4 but my Win 7 64bit pc hates it)

My best track: Valencia (quite amusing since I hate the place!)

My worse track: its a toss up between Suzuka (I simply cannot get a good line through the 'snake') or Silverstone (Hate the new layout and I suck at it too)

really really can't get to grips with the new Silversone layout in the new Codemasters F1 games because my head is remembering the old layout. I'm also rubbish at Suzuka in every F1 game I've played. I'm also a bit rubbish at Spa.

Currently I'm very good at Le Sarthe 2009 layout...been driving in few days about 12h20 mins Lemans 24Heures and 11 hours of that in rain (Gran Turismo 5).
How ever, I keep hitting 3mins 55 seconds within half second marginal. Lap count so far 184.

Perhaps it's just me, but I tend to excel around circuits with lots of hairpins and chicanes, more so than tracks with fast corners and esses. That's just what seemingly tends to suits my driving style more.

Also, I can never seem to nail the line through a fast combination of corners. Likewise, I rarely perfectly nail the steering going into the entry of a fast corner, such as Pouhon. I always have a tendency to steer either too early or too late, which forces me to slow down and make steering corrections mid-corner, compromising me time.

Lastly, I often have an easier time applying the throttle to the absolute limit on the exit of a slow hairpin or chicane, than I do at the exit of a medium-to-high speed corner. Again, that's just my distinctive driving behavior and habits behind the wheel, I guess.

I mostly play F1 2010 (not a fan of 2011/2012) and I would say my best tracks are Monaco, Montreal, Spa & Singapore.

My least favourites are Hungary, Korea, Abu Dhabi & India (from what I've played from the newer games).

Sometimes it depends on the game. A1-Ring was an extreme example. I used to hate it on just about every game I ever played, except for the very realistic depiction in Grand Prix 4 which I absolutely loved.

I'm not playing as many racing games now as I used to, which simplifies things. On F1 2012 I really can't get to grips with Abu Dhabi. I find it really had to find any reference points when doing a lap, and it's really frustrating to have your laptime cancelled for just going slightly off track. I really enjoy India and Austin, as well as some older tracks like Montreal and I've always got on well with Suzuka. I find the new Silverstone hard to get to grips with.

Apart from that I only play Forza (4) at the moment. Like with Gran Turismo in my Sony days, I often enjoy the fantasy tracks the most. I really enjoy the Sedona road course (outside the oval), it reminds me of Portland. The Alps, Camino Viejo/Iberian Raceway complex and Maple Valley are absolute joys to drive.

I hate that chicane too, but I'm not sure how you figure that.

The F1 game I play most of the time is still GP4 (with mods) so this is probably not very accurate but I usually go very well at:
- Melbourne
- Montreal
- Interlagos
- Abu Dhabi (!)

Worst:
- Sepang
- Silverstone

Then there are some tracks that I go well but end up making some mistake like Suzuka or Monza.

The only two racing games I play are Forza Motorsport 4 and F1 2012, ill just mix the tracks together since im lazy. Generally I prefer the faster tracks

One of the tracks I really love driving at is Spa so much action in one lap and tests the car and you, especially when back markers don't exactly move off the racing line! However I do love that track I don't do as well as I do in others. One which springs to mind is Melbourne and in particular the first and second sector but lose heaps of time in the 3rd. Melbourne is first but in a close second as many have said in this thread is Canada just because it's really quick and low margin for error.

A few tracks I do struggle on and I am being modest and saying a few, are China, just can't get the second and third sector hooked up and another one is Bahrain again the same problem just lose seconds at a time with the double right in the second sector locking the front left or the rears.
