I am trying to find out more about Nicah Cabral. He was a Porugese driver active in the early 1970`s mostly in Portugal but also in Angola.
Does anyone know if he is still around. I am restoring an old Schnitzer BMW 2800CS Group 2 that he used to race.

According to Richard Jenkins's Where Are They Now site Cabral was living in Lisbon in 2010.

Thanks for the leads. Yes Mario and Nicha are the same person.

I was put in touch with the person who wrote his biography so I hope that will lead to direct contact with him.

Sounds like he had an interesting life.....

The luckless M.A. Cabral is vividly remembered by Jack Brabham as the man whose Cooper-Maserati impeded his works Cooper-Climax by moving across his line and causing his enormous accident at Monsanto Park in Lisbon during the 1959 Portuguese GP. He always recalls that the ambulance ride to hospital was far more terrifying than the accident itself - which had been merely frightening - but he certainly was not very impressed by backmarker Cabral's driving... I fear the poor chap was probably fairly blameless, he'd just zigged when Jack hoped he'd zag...

He is still around, you can find a few recent photos of him. Mr. Theo Huschek, MT de Filippis' husband and CIAPGP organizer (not sure of his exact role) tells me that he hardly ever responds to any correspondance, even to them. You can find some interviews with him though where he speaks quite openly and honestly amongst others of his homosexuality.

Have you managed to contact or find more information about Nicha Cabral? He was truly one of our greats, and if not for that accident at Rouen he could have been a start on Prototypes, because I don't believe he would progress much in F1, Portugal wasn't a great market at all.

Sadly he was ill for some years, and on the last 2/3 his health deteriorated a lot. I never had the chance to meet him.

At the time he was the most promising Portuguese driver. If not for his huge accident in F2 in Rouen 1965 he might had achieved a much better record.
