But why is it black on the inside?

Because that's the colour it was. The body was hard anodised black and (if I recall correctly) finish honed (because hard anodising typically leaves an abrasive surface finish which obviously is not desirable in this application).

I thought it was going to be hard to beat the Ilmor 265B drawing for something that rewards repeated viewing but I think this one might do it.

I have some 4-way adjustable Sachs dampers in the workshop...just need to find a car for them!
