Interesting to see how many that actually followed Kimi while rallying, and also knows a lot about Kubica & Rossi rallying! We miss you in the yearly rally threads...!

We even had a few Kimi fans jump in the NASCAR threads when he gave it a shot.

Gotta say they're a devout bunch

I always read them, just have not enough knowledge to comfortably post anything;) Not a kimi fan, though;)

Agree. But when I say amazing in rally I state that because of the lack of experience he had. He was amazing co's one would just consider him or another F1 circuit driver for 10 years to be less competitive, something like Al Qassimi. To use Bruno Senna it's like if now Williams gave a seat to Peter Solberg and he could match him over a season. It would be awesome in a relative way. Kimi scored 55 points in two incomplete seasons, and got himself in the speed mix. He just needed a bit more experience to stay on the road.

Well I couldn't have responded better - that is what I meant when I said Kimi was amazing at rally - he wasn't an Ogier etc but for his level of experience to be able to consistently keep the car in the top 10 - that was respectable in my book. That transition was amazing to me - I expected Kimi to be way behind!

P Solberg? Henning maybe, at a push. Even Petter's not all that anymore.

He did acclimatize to the pace quickly but then I never saw him build on that. "Amazing at rally" is a quite funny way to put it. That's like saying Bruno Senna is amazing at F1, after all he lacks experience to everyone big time because he never did karts, and is a decent journeyman midfielder. Amazing.

I like Kimi as my favorite F1 driver no doubt, but there's no need to embellish his achievements beyond reality. He did fine to move to a completely different branch of the sport and be competitive there, but nothing beyond that: "competitive".

Oops my bad at the original comparison to Petter, I meant Henning! To compare an F1 rookie to a rally rookie is not apt at all mate! It takes them around 3 years to get to the best level in WRC - it has a lot to do with pace notes and learning to drive on different surfaces! F1 may be the pinnacle in terms of speed and technology but Rally is definitely a sport with a much greater learning curve and difficulty level.

As for the amazing part, lol - its not me embellishing it but just looking at it relative to experience and other rookies - basically as I've said above :)

I'm sure you read this Hirvonen quote when asked about Kimi winning: “Over years, maybe.” He said, “I have been talking with Kimi’s engineers and they said he was as fast as the top drivers. It was not about his driving skills but more about making pace notes.”

I think he describes it well - Kimi had the pace but just needed the experience for rally scenario. His rookie of the year confirms that the WRC world thought he had what it takes to punch with the big boys eventually - not everyone can do that!

Just a little thing that fell into my head. Kimi was rookie of the year in WRC in 2010. But who did he fight against for that prize? Ken Block is the only other guy that I can think of that would've qualified for that prize. It sounds more flattering than it is in reality.

2 small italian rounds, one in como in C4 and other in impreza wrc 2006. I don't remember the rally name though, check RK thread for info;-)

also before the accident he was 4th in du var in clio 1600, and had one poodium in this car IIRC - in some other rally. he used to beat some S2000s with ths little thing, took part in quite a few ralies.

He had two podiums and a 4th place (du Var) overall in the Clio. All class wins with big margin, of course. IIRC he was doing very well (2nd?) in a Renault Clio Williams on snowy/icy tarmac but had to retire due to mechanical problems or damage.
Two onboards from that rally:

Good times :)

Also lately he was rumored being the fastest in a rally (against faster cars) while being then zero car in the S1600 Clio :)
