Why not screw St.Bernard and go to Goodwood and skip watching his race? I know what I would do.

I think he means that the F1 teams won't be attending Goodwood. Big shame really.

Can the FoS also be rescheduled, or is it set in stone already?

I would think the teams have enough personnel to be in two places at the same time.

no, what he appears to be saying is that he won't go to goodwood because the F1 teams aren't there. for me, that's not reason enough to not go. there's SO much more to the FOS than F1, including stuff you're much less likely to be able to see up close at any other time.

Also, who had the date first?

Not as bad as the inaugural Texas GP overlapping the NASCAR Championship finale race, at least here in the States.

This.

Obviously for the bigger teams, not so much the smaller ones. The main drivers won't be there either but it'll give the test/reserve drivers a run...

Well, the point is, the f1 teams and particularly the race drivers won't be patronizing Goodwood...which they would have been otherwise...

I doubt His Lordship will lose much - or any - sleep over this.

Nor will most of us who frequent TNF since we'd far rather see more of the historic stuff which the gradual expansion of the F1 paddock has squeezed out.

Give me one Marmon Wasp, Alfa Romeo 159, Trossi Monaco or Mercedes Benz W165 and I'd happily sacrifice seeing any number of today's cookie cutter Eff One cars.

Interesting question-anyone know where one can find the International Race calendar? Used to be in FIA 'yellow book'-last one I have was for '92.I remember '56 calendar was in Autosport October '55-half of which were later cancelled

Goodwood normally decide on their dates shortly after the provisional calendar is issued.

This year the F.O.S date was announced, on their website, on 1st October.

I seem to recall in years past that F.O.S. dates were often quoted with 'subject to change', albeit perhaps not quite this late in the day. With the event ever-expanding, this caveat seems to have been dropped of late. In addition one can imagine that preparations for their 20th anniversary started even earlier than normal.

Those who receive 'tweets' from Goodwood will have been told:

'Hi everyone, we are aware of the changes to the F1 calendar for 2013 and we'll update you regarding FoS as soon as possible... '

Goodwood can always change dates if they're concerned by it.

Yes but we all know things like that are always done out of spite where Bernie is concerned. He basically is in charge and it would've been passed by him before being decided.

Off course. They are the ones who should bend over for Bernie and not the other around. I wouldn't be surprised if Goodwood just found out like us.

Maybe you wont get the current stars of F1 there, but there's no reason they cant send some cars and personnel(the non race weekend sort) to represent them.

To be honest, F1's circus is bigger than just the drivers. There are many other distinguished motorsport people who would normally be at Goodwood but probably won't be if there is an F1 race on. Nope, this decision has buggered it up. That said, if they can move a GP weekend, I'm sure they can move a Goodwood weekend. Otherwise they'll have to be creative and theme it something, perhaps focus strongly on sportscars/Le Mans. though I guess those sorts of creative decisions have long since past.

The demo teams are a separate entity to the race teams. F1 cars will be there, just with the 4th or 5th drivers.

And besides, Goodwood is NOT the place to go and see (3yr old) F1 cars. Yawn.

So many more spectacular (and interesting) cars to see on a Hillclimb.

I'm not that bothered. If the German race is on Sky I wouldn't be watching it anyway, and am not that fussed about seeing contemporary F1 at Goodwood. As long as the historic stuff is there then I'm quite happy.

Dates of Goodwood Festival of Speed are now T.B.C.

Hi all,

Unfortunately it looks like the dates of FoS will be changed. Here's the official line from the Goodwood website-

"Due to the FIA unexpectedly announcing a further change to the 2013 F1 calendar, Goodwood will now have to change the Festival’s date in order to avoid this conflict with the amended Grand Prix."

Best,

I'm sure youre not alone with thinking that either but there are a huge amount of people who go to see the current teams and their drivers as well. When I was there a few years back there was huge crowds every time Lewis Hamilton or Jensen Button appeared. It would be a great shame to miss out on those moments for the crowd, especially the younger fans

MotoGP had already moved that race to avoid an F1 clash with the German GP.

There are going to be an awful lot of upset people of the FoS is moved as appears likely. There are many people posting on the FoS Facebook account saying they've already spend thousands on non-refundable flights and accommodation.

I'm disappointed at the news that F1 will race on the FOS weekend. I've been to the FOS many times but had to miss it last year due to work and don't want to miss it next year. I don't go just to see current F1 cars but it's always nice to see some of the current drivers and to applaud them as they make their way up the hill. I'm sure teams will still be able to get some recent cars there but drivers will be more difficult given the need to have reserve driver(s) at the GP. Shame. Mind you it isn't definite that they'll reach an agreement for a 20th race so Germany might revert to it's original date. Can't see that it would be easy to move the FOS because many entrants and spectators will have already booked flights/hotels/logistics/etc - as suggested above.

June 20th-23rd or July 11th-14th certainly would appear to be favourites.

It is a massive deal though, not only for those who've booked time off work or flights, but especially for those individuals and organisations shipping their classic cars from all 4 corners of the world to be there for the 20th anniversary of the event. Not to mention de-conflicting from any other events on whichever weekend is chosen. Could even 'coincide' with a Royal birthday...

EDIT: Forgot about Le Mans (d'oh) which takes place June 22nd-23rd. That makes mid-July the favourite. Since July 21st has been put aside for the 'TBA' GP, I'd put money on 11-14 July; June 16th is probably too soon after Canada, and before LM,

The only other alternative would be to move the Goodwood F.o.S. to August 8th-11th, the following weekend is going to see the F1 teams work up for Belgium, I'd imagine.

The FoS is about all motorsport past & present, not about just F1. If the 22 current F1 drivers and 11 current teams can't come, there will still be loads of great stuff there. I doubt if many will even notice the absence of a few overpaid divas.

I confess I'd be happier for the current F1 lot to be absent, might mean less of a crowd and a more knowledgeable one at that. I'd also happily pay a bit more and have less people attend.

I can see why Lord March and his team want to accommodate the current F1 teams though.

I'd pay more for fewer people and no modern F1.
