We were told by DCN on commentary that it was actually an original part of the helicopter rotor blade which was tried on the 49 'Down Under' in 1968. Possiblt Doug can expand further...

Edi Wyss, Wal Willmott, Howden Ganley, Ray Rowe, Alastair Caldwell, Jim Murdoch, Tom Anderson,Hughie Absalom, Mike Barney, Jimmy Stone, Gordon Coppock,Cary Taylor

Missing from the photo were Colin Beanland and Tyler Alexander who were at the event.

The photo was taken by the Brooklands Memorial Garden - where there is the headstone in Bruce's memory .

These workers were the pre 1970 crew and had a minutes silence for Bruce McLaren followed by a minutes ' noise ' from the engine in Roger Wills CanAm McLaren .

I wonder whether it has any 'in the spirit of Smokey' modifications.  Reduced size?  Thinner sections?  Duralumin body?  Adrenalin injectors on the pedals?    PTFE wheel bearings?  A laptop battery replacing the boot floor powering mini electric motors?

Many thanks to all for the posted photos, especially from areas I couldn't have accessed even if I'd been there - hopefully this will be the only year I'll miss.

 

edit: in the Jim Clark tribute parade, was there a Lotus 24 or a 35? If not they must be the only significant omissions.

I'm sure everybody will be pleased to know that the Richard Burns Foundation, the Revival's chosen charity made about £52 000 at the Revival: £17 000 from the bucket collections/raffle/Earls Court/dancers/helmet store, £30,000 at the Saturday night dinner and a cheque from Rolex, one of the Revival sponsors, for £5,000.

I took over 400 pictures at The Revival but was disappointed with the quality of most of them.

 

However, blurred or not, I'm posting an image of my most favourite car at this year's event:

I caught most of the programme on ITV last night.  Definitely more racing and less posers than previous coverage.  But only saloons, GT40s and the 'TT' - no open wheelers or sports cars.

Indeed, no pre-war or 1950's sports or single seaters,  but cowboys and indians, artic explorers, train robbers, St Trinians kids and that bogus Laurel & Hardy none of whom were seen at Goodwood in the 1950's. I accept that the programme wasnt aimed at old curmudgeons like me though. and the racing that they did show looked good, and at times, quite like the real thing.

I sat through the whole programme and thought there was way too much 'non-racing' stuff, it got on my nerves. I fully appreciate that the programme was madew for the masses, but I just sat there quietly seething and thinking 'What about all the racing??'. I wonder what reaction ITV would get if next years' programme had just racing and absolutely nothing else?

Looking forward to reading this Mr A...   Andy's dedication to rebuilding 43/1 is nearly the stuff of legend and I hope that this restoration gets nominated for every award going!   I last saw the car at Snetterton in 2010 (minus engine) and had hoped to see it run at Goodwood.  Had to be elsewhere all weekend, unfortunately.   There was a brief glimpse or two in the Goodwood live feed that I maanged to se a lttle of and also the ITV4 Revival programme last Thursday.but I imagine the siound of the BRM H16 would have been a particular highlight of the Jim Clark tribute.   Well done to Andy and to everybody who has made this restoration possible.

I am sure that many TNFrs would like to congratulate Andy Middlehurst on his success in the Octane sponsored International Historic Motoring Awards for 2013.   His magnificent and sympathetic restoration of the 1966 US Grand Prix winning Lotus 43/1 has been voted "Restoration of the Year".  The announcement was made at last night's awards ceremony held at London's St Pancras Renaissance Hotel.
