The overtaking figures -courtesy of Clip The Apex- for each race (across all data sets) do not include:

Position changes on the first lap of the race
Position changes due to drivers lapping backmarkers
Positions gained in the pits
Positions gained due to drivers yielding
Positions gained when a car has a serious technical problem; e.g. puncture, accident damage, etc.


All overtakes
1. Sebastian Vettel - 74 on-track overtakes
1. Mark Webber - 74
3. Felipe Massa - 65
4. Lewis Hamilton - 55
4. Romain Grosjean - 55

All overtakes, without backmarkers
Disgarding the overtakes on the teams of HRT, Marussia and Caterham
1. Sebastian Vettel - 51 on-track overtakes
2. Lewis Hamilton - 46
2. Mark Webber - 46
4. Felipe Massa - 45
5. Jenson Button - 41

All overtakes, without backmarkers, with equal tires

Still ******** about Valencia?

That being said, I am very surprised to see Vettel on top of the list in every section. I do know he made countless overtakes in Belgium, Abu Dhabi and Brazil; but I wasn't expecting this much.

Not a Vettel fan BTW I just dislike how Alonso constantly finds himself on the podium without actually knowing how. And how he never has car issues being on a half decent position let alone race lead or podium position and this with different teams. Last time that happened was in 06 and it was a pitstop error
Me too. Didn't expect Vettel on top. Maybe this has to do with the first half of the season when RB was not good in qualy but good in races.

What you're saying is that you dislike the fact that Alonso doesn't crash enough and Ferrari doesn't screw up enough times, but the other teams and drivers do.

Then again, this isn't 2010 anymore. The myth that Vettel can't overtake has long been blown out of the water, and anyone who uses that excuse now is just desperate. I'll give him that.

It says at the top. According to author does NOT include:

Position changes on the first lap of the race

Its not about crashing. Its about always having very reliable cars regardless of which team he is driving for. compare his ferrari years to 07-08 and 09 for that theam. Same with Mclaren 04-05-06. Then in 07 they are super reliable when Alonso drives it. Driver's cant affect that. I'm also jealous of so many inherited wins he's got. The highest number on the grid me thinks.

Those statistics doesn't include overtaking from 1st lap and start which is...stupid, but if you already started :

Alonso never lost place in first lap in 2012 and gained 4 places x2, 3 places x4, 2 palces x2 and 1 place x6.


Places gained/lost after the start:
Massa 38
Alonso 30
Button 4
Vettel 3
Hamilton 2
Webber -7
