The rationale for this thread is the same as the one for the Driver helmet's thread.

Weird.

Quite like the coat though, shame it'll probably cost north of three figures.

EDIT: Hamilton's camera smile always reminds me of Chandler from FRIENDS camera smile, so awkward.

I noticed the Mercedes star like the McLaren kit running "Mercedes-Benz" underneath anymore either.

Pretty exciting that its only 2 week until we will see him in his race suit at Jerez.

Yeah I agree the coat is very nice, and the colour seems to fit him well, like Jrg said bring on the pictures of him in racewear!

It's underwhelming, because it's not like we haven't seen him doing Mercedes appearances since 2007.

Speak for yourself, context is everything, and in this case the very fact that it's his first appearance since leaving McLaren makes it exciting.

Yes, Lewis is not a natural in front of the cameras...he seems to be self-conscious and quite shy. It's one of the things that I find endearing about him.

It's all seeming real now...Lewis is a Mercedes driver! I just can't wait for winter testing. I must say I am looking forward to this season far more than the previous two. :)

But other than the very subtle Petronas logo there's nothing really new about this. It's like when he shows up in Stuttgart for Stars & Cars.

If this was a Brackley HQ appearance, shaking hands with Brawn, etc, that'd be a bit more 'newsy'.

Who cares about the coat? I like the first photo of him with all of the legendary cars around. Now that's some racing history.

It's owned by Mercedes-Benz, you can't get much more official than that.

For goodness sake, what on earth does that have to do with Lewis Hamilton's first appearance at Mercedes?

We get it ... you find it ironic that a person who identifies himself as a black man now drives for Mercedes.. we understand the connotations from the picture you posted. The last time you posted this I believe it got removed/moderated...

I don't understand why you are posting it again. If you have some sort of agenda please take it elsewhere. My understanding is that threads are meant to be specific and if you want to discuss Mercedes past or Lewis's skin colour then go ahead and create a thread about it.

It would help if they had chosen someone he knew and felt comfortable with to interview him.

Most also be quite strange to be spoken to in German, and have someone talk about you in German to a whole room of people and you haven't got a clue what they are saying!! Time to learn some German Lewis!!

Whole thing smacks of being quite rushed - come on Mercedes, give us something to get excited about

To be fair it must feel sooo slow driving at that speed for an F1 driver...

And I agree, Mercedes PR is laughable.

I don't think I will ever get used to Lewis speaking about Mclaren as a rival. It just doesn't seem natural. German lessons will be a must for him. Outside Berlin the overwhelmingly preferred language in Germany is ........."surprise" Germany. He will no longer spend all his days in the happy bubble of a 100% English speaking team.

The team outside the corporate upper echelons, at the sharp end, is in the UK where the preferred language is....

The history lesson is interesting but instead of the era of the cars in the picture shouldn't the real controversy be the fact that Mercedes chose a car with the number 2 on the bonnet for Hamilton to pose with!

Posted Image

Is Mercedes no so subtlety signalling that Lewis is their #2 driver? Hamilton should be outraged! ;)

That is a beautiful collection of cars.

Thanks for the pics - a nice reminder that winter testing, and the 2013 season, are fast looming.

While I have my general doubts about the current Mercedes F1 team, I hope Lewis settles in well and is happy with his new team. Overall I think its good for him to race for a different team and in a different atmosphere. Its going to be exciting to watch!

Yeah... Nazi references.... Germany had its past but 1945 was 70 years ago, even my grandparents were just kids in the days... no need to bring that up anymore... time have changed

it's a particular sensitive topic here in Germany...

I'm not offended, but yeah... it was an unnecessary reference...

Dear Sin;
I enjoy reading your posts and you have a great ingenuousness in your manner.
My reference was to Alfred Neubauer and der Silberpfeile, brought on by the photo in the OP of Lewis.
While he is actually sitting on a early 50's W196 the car behind, the W165, in that display reminded me of my visit to the museum where the audio tour makes detailed mention of the era. Including the Birth of the Mercedes racing heritage.
The book in which the picture is from is a good one, as a German, you should read it.
Racing has a long and exciting history, as does life. I won't go all George Santayana on you but be assured that it's in your best interest to embrace history in a manner in which you can learn from it. While you and others may focus on the image I posted the reactionary interpretations of that were indeed predictable and THAT is what is unnecessary.

Ollie; You're very kind to ask the lovely and thoughtful folks here to give me some Living Space But...it's just ain't natchul, not in this day and age.

The correct reposte to any insult or offence incurred is the one Risil posted.
THAT'S CLASS.

We should be very careful ...

Fascism should rightly be called Corporatism, as it is the merger of corporate and government power. - Benito Mussolini

It goes a lot further than the last war's losers - who didnt get to write the history books... and while all Nazis are Facists not all Fascists are Nazis .... and if you use Mussolini's definition (and he was the orginal Fascist - at least in modern times) then we have to remember that today's F1 is built on a foundation of state sponsored races and some very dodgy owners.... and until recently it seemed that you had to be an actual Nazi to run the FIA.... and just in case m'friends are reading this - I am of course referring to everyone's favourite former SS man, the dearly departed M. Balestre who cannot be libelled :D ....and not to anyone who can.

And who can forget this lovely vision of a future mega city called Planned-opolis which was sponsored by the FIA foundation and Vodafone ... yep the same Vodafone who sponsor LH's former supposedly "non-fascist", Bahraini financed team.

Of course, it is still a pleasure for me to see LH with those beautiful cars even if he did not have the greatest appreciation of them LH at the Merc museum as we must never, never, never forget that politics has nothing to do with sport.

Agreed!! Not fussed on the puffa jacket thing... but the top looks like the black McLaren team wear from 2011... very nice!!!

Can't wait for the big reveal now, if only Mercedes can sort their recruitment/management bleh out so it's all about the car and racing :)
