Who raced which model Ferrari in Australia?

Should the modern GP cars be included as from the first race in Adelaide to current in Melbourne, the topic is open to all types of Ferrari.

You send a message to Twinny and he can delete the other two. Best way might be to click on 'report this post' on one of them.

As it happened both cars finished up in WA they are know in the Donnington Museum.

What about the Dick Gobden Ferrari V12 later Corvette powered and the Lex Davison Ferrari 625 later raced in WA by Doug Green.
As it happened both cars finished up in WA they are know in the Donnington Museum.
Peter Whitehead's Ferrari 125 #4 (0114) was at NZGP 1954, in the same year the car was sold to Dick Cobden.

Now we have the Tasman cars, of which I think I'm safe in saying there were three separate cars.
Chris Amon drove one with a 3-valve motor in 1968
He also drove one with a 4-valve motor in 1969 while the other was driven by Derek Bell. The Amon car was then taken over by Graeme Lawrence who raced it in Australia in 1970. I think it's correct to say that these were different chassis to the car raced here in 1968 - which has also been raced at Tasman Revival events by Rob Hall.
Another car which raced was a 250GT 2+2 owned by Laurie O'Neil and raced by David McKay. I don't know if this was the Bushell car but I'm sure John Medley and others will.

Ray,
If you are thinking of the white 250GT that David McKay raced in 1961, it was owned by Tony Oxley, not Laurie O'Neil. It was rather embarrassed at Longford, a circuit that should have suited it, by Leo Geoghegan in the Lotus Elite and Gavin Youl's Porsche Super. Having said that I think the Ferrari was in standard trim, whereas the Elite and Porsche were both well developed.

I believe Tony Oxley was a part of the Bushell business, I had understood he was a son of someone in the top echelon there but I don't really know. Maybe they'd bought the car from Laurie O'Neil?
John would probably know.

The two Super Squalo cars [Parnell & Whitehead] were first in Australia for the 1956 Albert Park Olympic event before going on to NZ for the 1957 series and sold to NZ owners.Would I be right in having a recollection of seeing some of my Dad's shots of Arnold Glass at Longford in about 1958 in a 555 Super Squalo?
Then Australia again, with Tom Clark 9001 [back to NZ] and John McMillian 9002 [on sold to Arnold Glass]

By the way, if anyone knows about Laurie O'Neil and the 250GT, did he hillclimb it?
Do hillclimbs count? If so, you'd have a hard time leaving out other types of circuit events, that would mean including entrants in the modern Ferrari rallies that go from circuit to circuit in Australia.

The Kelly brothers, Des and Bill, raced the Arnold Glass car later, with it going on to be run in Historics by Noel Tuckey.

The first words of this thread were "I have been wondering who have raced Ferrari,s in Australia & what model they were.", Racing to me is an organised event against other competitors & against the clock.
I do believe that that would include what you suggest Ray

The thread's about Australian Ferraris, Paul, not New Zealand ones
The Hoare car never had an Australian-made body
David the Thread is about Who raced Ferrari in Australia, not Australian Ferrari so if the 256 raced at Sandown in 1962 as it did then it counts.
A photo of the car can be found on the Aussie Road Racing URL.

This would have had to have been pre-October 1962 as I know I wasn't there...
To my knowledge, Doug Heasman didn't race until the very late sixties.

That car is glossed over, though mentioned in post 19 and by Repco22 in post 22... but Doug Green has been omitted.

If it was not Heasman then who was it, I remember that it was a cracker of a race & all in the stands went berserk at a Holden beating a Farrari.
What a top story on the 500/625

i think it did one meeting Albert Park.On Page 1 of http://aussieroadracing.homestead.com/ there is a photo of Nino Saccilotto Farrari Coupe, what model is it & how many events did it compete in, was he the only driver of this car.
At Bathurst practiced but never raced?
In about 1978 it was for sale for about $25,000 told my father to buy it,by the time he got to Seaford was sold, friend of mine now bought it sold it about 1 year latter for $80,000 odd ,todays value I'd say 3 million plus.

Hi Lola, as a 25 yr old in 1977 I was taking my recently purchased PRAD Holden special, $500 as a going concern, to a friends place in Malvern near the railway line & Toorak Rd for some work prior to competing in the 1st All Historic Winton, for him to do some work. To access his laneway I had to enter from a side street and passed a a house that had an intersting shape under a cover in the carport. I went back later and knocked on the door and it was answered by Dr Henderson? and the interesting shape was a Ferrari 250 Lusso. I expressed an interest in the car and was told to forget about it as he had something better in the shed. This was the Nino Sacilotto 225 Ferrari coupe. He then took me for a ride down the south eastern freeway in the unregistered car. Not much in the way of mufflers, no sound proofing and the glorious sound of the V12 and the 5 speed crash box. A highly entertaning ride and I was smitten. He told me he would like the car to go to an enthusiast and the car could be mine $20,000 including a spare engine, gearbox and numerous other parts.
I was living at home and was about to buy my first house and told my parents I was going to buy the Ferrari instead. They talked me out it saying that a house would be a far better investment! I wish I had gone with my insinct. Oh well 20/20 hindsight is a wonderful thing!
The ferrari was purchased by Bill Alexander and then went to Clisby in SA. I thought this was a nice symmetry as my friends Mario Costa/Frank Curcio had an Elfin mono in their shed which was the Mono that had the Clisby V6 in it. I still have the PRAD which gives me much enjoyment, possibly at a cost that I can afford!
Regards Shane

I don't see any mention of the two 750 Monza Ferraris brought out by Ken Wharton and Peter Whitehead for the 1956 Australian Tourist Trophy at Albert Park, the week before the "Olympic" GP.

A bit off topic I know.
There was a meeting at the Farm and Ian Ferguson had an almighty lose betwwen the exit of The Causeway and Polo Corner drivers left.
The three of us on the Fire Tender took off as he had taken out quite a bit of fencing and watering system.
Arrive at the incident and there was a piece of the water pipe under the side of his helmet.
We had been involved in another serious incident a few weeks before.
When we arrived at the car I think the general thought was "Not another one."
Get closer and Ian,cool as a cucumber undoes the helmet and takes it off.
His first words were "I,m OK guys, I knew there was a corner coming up but forgot to brake!!"

From memory it was a meeting or so before he crashed at Suttons at Oran Park and the car caught fire.
Cheers.
Roger.
