Should be interesting to see if he gets beaten by his team mate for the third season in a row.

Hey man, it has to be said. If the rumours are true & it is indeed Sutil, and he does get beaten yet again, it will all but confirm Di Resta as the worse driver. If it's someone else then surely questions will be asked about his ability.

It will be interesting, just saying.

Well if the Bianchi news is true FI might finally have found someone the new Scotch Fangio can actually beat while he waits for Ferrari to summon him.

They may well of seen that everyone was beginning to speculate di Resta wasn't going to drive this year, but I would love it if Force India hired him solely to piss half of you off

Sutil says he's certain he'll be in F1 this year, so here at Force as DiResta's teammate? That's my guess as well.

Disappointed...I like Paul but I think he i going to be another Coulthard but with far less talent, or maybe he is just in F1 at the wrong time when drivers of Hamilton, Alonso and Vettel's calibre are around, which makes him looks less impressive, I think its a general fact that F1 hasn't had so any top tier drivers racing at the same time at the top of their game, in a very long time, mid to late 80's Mansell Senna Prost and Piquet.

This was never in any doubt, I am baffled as to why so many on this forum thought he hadn't been confirmed.

Incidentally, David Coulthard reckons di Resta is a more complete driver than he was himself.

:rotfl:

You think he'd have been nailed on to shine in a turbo car? Or have given Clark or Schumacher a run for their money? Don't get me wrong, he's a nice guy, his Auntie cuts my mother-in-law's hair, but he's not even the best driver in his family. Come on.

Absolutely. I don't understand why he is such an easy target.
He did a decent job except second half of last season. He completed most number of laps in 2011 that too in his debut season.
He accumulated most of the points when car was way behind Sauber and Williams in first half of the 2012 season.

On the topic beaten by teammates: Webber was trumped by Vettel since both are teammates, same goes with Grosjean and theoretically Heikki Kovalinen.
So now questioning him deserving the seat is ludicrous and ridiculous.

Now, they just need to sign Senna for the second seat and they have a well balanced driver pairing.

That would be a disgrace on the face of F1. Never before would there have been such an obvious pay driver in a midfield team.

He's a reasonable driver and his confirmation shows that FI don't need two pay drivers which good for them.

So what is the problem? If Sutil is going to be in F1, I think it will be here at Force India.

I hope it is Sutil, what he achieved in 2011 is very underrated in my opinion.

You're saying that he was better than the Hulk in the first half of the season and great in the second half... yet he was firmly beaten last year. It doesn't make a great deal of sense.

I know a load of casual fans that rate DiResta, lobbyism from the BBC seems to have worked wonders.

However, I think he deserves the seat at FI, he's a midfield calibre driver in a midfield team. Sure Sutil beat him, but he's always looked fairly quick (if inconsistent) and the Hulk was at one point being tipped for greatness. I think Paul is about where he deserves to be on merit.

Just wondering; does Di Resta have Italian forefathers or something? Italian colours in his helmet and Di Resta doesn't sound Scottisch at all.

That's a common mistake to make. Actually, Latinate Celtic names are given the patronymic 'di', whereas Gaelic Celtic names can take the patronymic Mac, Mc or O' amongst others. Therefore, in the same way that Jermaine Sporran would be a viable name, with the addition of the patronymic it becomes Jermaine McSporran. In the same way, Joe Calzaghe, a Welsh Latinate Celtic name becomes, with the addtion of the patronymic, Joe di Calzaghe.

No need to confuse things by questioning someone's nationality.

Yes - he is so rubbish that if you rank all the 9 driver pairings who scored points in 2012 as a percentage of the lower placed against their team mate he comes a lowly 3rd in the table with 73%, only beaten by Button (99%) and Kobyashi(91%).
But there again, since when have the facts meant anything to a large number of posters on here
