The Silverstone circuit is now 1 mile away from a UK Govenment "No Go" exclusion zone. With the peak of the Foot & Mouth outbreak not expected to be hit till end May, and with a 42 day incubation period, the grand prix is now under very serious threat on cancellation.

On the radio today they said that some of the gates to Silverstone were already in the exclusion zone. Run it at Mallory as I work a stones throw away.

 I think they tried that one
Not Brands please, it might be a good track but its too far away from me ;) I love Silverstone its such a great place, i'd recommend the BGP to anyone there.

OT but I wonder if Rockingham will suffer too??

Didn't they spend a boatload of money at Brands trying to pry the GP away from Silverstone? I'd love to see the race there, imagine these cars blasting through Paddock Hill Bend. Most cool.:D

IF Silverstone goes down what would we be left with?

a vacant race date?

a makeup race on the continent?

Is there another UK track that could host it on such short notice?

Not sure on ticket prices, try www.silverstone-circuit.co.uk

for general admission, there are lots of great places. i'd advise you to go for 2 days and walk the circuit on the Saturday to find a nice spot, if you are planning to go GA. I'd tell you a few but you might steal my place

FP, i think it might go to another country, there are no tracks up to spec as far as i know (even Donington, the GP seating hasn't been installed). Dream GP: Oulton Park :) My home track

Wouldnt matter if there was another track avialable. They are all out in the countryside and the chances are that they would all be affected by then, if F&M keeps spreading at the rate it is.

In 1983 & 1985 Brands Hatch organized a GP at about 7 weeks notice.Donington Park did the same in 1993. Rockingham is possibly the best bet as its the only one NOT in a rural area-its the site of an old steelworks. On the other hand I believe Birmingham.still has all its armco & stands stored away somewhere awaiting a sponsor....

Hey, Beej! I went to Silverstone in 99 and was placed at Becketts inside during the race. Pretty good, you get to see the cars for a long time there. On the other hand, there is not much passing going on there. There are lots of good places around Silverstone. Do as Buzz said, walk around on Saturday and find a good position. I really loved the atmosphere at Silverstone, it was better there than at Spa. Hope you will enjoy!

I heard if Silverstone is a no go they will have a 2nd race in the U.S. I believe the track at Bristol Tenn would be used. It's perfect for F1, 1/2 mile oval, 36-degree banking, and filled with folks who like both kinds of music, country and western.

If that doesn't pan out I suggest the Washington D.C. beltway at rush hour. Plenty of overtaking opportunities.

Seriously though I would hate to have them miss the race at Silverstone. As a MS/Ferrari fan it's enemy territory, but it's a cool track with some great history. Speaking of which, does anyonme know of the top of their heads what units fly out of Silverstone during WWII?

If the have to shift it to another British Track Donington would have to be the only choice IMHO.

If it can't happen in Britain Estoril looks like a good bet or Kyalami.

For a very small amount of money, Donnington can be re-upgraded so presuambly it would go there.

Otherwise : Fiorano? FIA finally comes clean on bias ;)

Wouldn't it be great if they did it on the new oval at Rockingham!!!

But most likely, IF it gets cancelled, Estoril would probably take over right?

I wonder if it's only a UK problem. I hear there are outbreaks all over Europe, especially in France and the Netherlands. Today, I heard on CNN that the EEU has decided to ban the netherlands's meet as well.

There is no law to say they can't. And anyway they use almost half of the oval track at Indy.

The laws of good taste and tradition prohibit F1 racing on ovals. F1 cars are road racing cars. And to tell the truth, I'm not at all crazy about the arena race at Indianapolis. Better they should have used a proper road course like Laguna Seca or Road Atlanta.

Sadly those rules aren't in the rule book pa. If Bernie wants it to happen it will.

Bear in mind that Rockingham does have a roadcourse in the infield... I'm not sure if it's up to F1 standards, or if it would even be ready in time for a possible race this year.

Whats really irritating me at the moment is everybody is going on about cancelling motorsport events and other sporting events (correctly in my opinion, annoying as it is), yet the bloody football still goes on, national and international games. Just think how many people are movin around because of that, potentially spreading F&M.

Ohhh well, as long as I'm able to leave this country and get into Italy in 3 weeks time, I'll be happy.

After last year's debacle it will be a relief if Silverstone is cancelled - they don't deserve it anyway

Three words: European season finale.

One precedent is they did move Spa back a few months from spring to fall in 1985 after a somewhat less than successful repaving attempt...not what you need handling turbo cars in those corners! Can't do a Dallas and patch the corners on race morning
