http://www.mercedes-...4-online-reveal

Fans of the team will be able to dictate the pace of the F1 W04 online reveal by posting on Twitter using the hashtag #F1W04Reveal.

Each tweet will trigger the opening of a garage door on our website, behind which is hiding the new F1 W04. And the faster you retweet it, the faster the car will be revealed. So the more you tweet, the more you’ll see!

To be a part of this exclusive online reveal, simply visit our website, www.mercedes-amg-f1.com and our Twitter account, www.twitter.com/mercedesamgf1 from Saturday, 16:00 (GMT).

Use this thread to discuss the online launch and the first pictures as they are released in a few hours.

Heh that sounds awful.

If it weren't for Lewis I bet the car would never get unveiled :p

I hope they've purchased enough bandwidth to handle the extra traffic. They're already having trouble.

Yeah I just clicked on it again, and now it's stuck mid-loading. Not great Mercedes; at four I fully expect the website to blow up.

Down.

Really in this day off short term CDN, Cloud and Amazon services there is no excuse to to be prepared for load spikes.

Thanks, but I found clarification and apparently the "formal launch" will be on Monday at Jerez.

I personally think this was an after thought based on the scheduling and the competitors launching their own cars and the fanfare the launches have caused. I guess Mercedes realised that once redbull launches theirs tomorrow the focus moves on to the Jerez where the tests will kick off. Not one to miss out on the PR event, fanfare and also to potentially cash in, they now come up with this online reveal thing, as one can see which they are totally unprepared for as their server keeps crashing even moreso than the autosport forum on race day. its a good thing cos I get to see their car today but they should have planned it better.

I switched over to Mercedes just because of Lewis, but perhaps it will be actually fun to follow this team. I love this twitter idea :) Even better than #IamSexyAndIKnowIt from Lotus :) Hope they can entertain us more in the future.

So its F1 version of an advent calender....sort of.

From 4GMT people has to tweet with the hashtag and once a number of tweets is reached we will see the car. They will probably will be moving the garage door up when we get certain intermediate number of tweets.

Twitter is just a tool to trigger opening the gate. The more people spam #F1W04Reveal, the higher the gate will go, revealing more of the car. You don't need twitter to watch their website.
On the left hand side of twitter website you can find something called Trending which shows the most popular hashtags at current. They probably want to hit top10 worldwide, not sure if possible thou.

Mate its an imitation of the German advent calender to reveal things bit by bit. You really are reading far too much into things.

It might not be on or off. It may be some requests are getting redirected to the error page i.e. they are throttling requests.

People try to visit their website all at the same time, coincidentally just when they wanted to launch their car. Nobody could've expected that.

I'm shaking my head how someone would organize a Twitter campaign and not back it with these services. It's so stupid it makes me want to scream. Or rather cry, if I contemplate how much the guy who "organized" this mess probably makes.

To be fair to Mercedes #F1W04Reveal was trending third worldwide, the amount of traffic they're probably receiving is by their standards unprecedently huge.

No. They made a typo and then re-wrote the tweet with W04. Just a mistake.
