You thought wrong. It is intensely interesting. So I thought it would be mildly interesting to list F1 drivers and what pets they've been seen with.

Shoulder cat: once seen, never forgotten. JYS is very fond of dogs. This is a touching tribute to one of them, Boss the dog, given in an extract to The Daily Express a few years ago:Ahhh yes, I remember shoulder cat.

Aww, I made myself sadI was meant to be a three-time Formula One world champion, a racing driver who had supposedly shown great mental strength in being able to carry on competing when so many of his friends were being killed but it was starting to look as if I had been deflated and defeated by the death of a small dog.
I certainly felt a part of my soul went with him and although we have new dogs now his loss created a void and a sense of emptiness that has not properly been filled.

The whole world could be caving in - but when you look down and see that waging tail, wet nose and "I love you" eyes - you know it all doesn't really matter. And all that for a bowl of water and a bit of basic food. Bargain!

Dogs work wonders in stressful situations.

Well Lewis mentioned that, due to him being away from family and friends Roscoe makes a great companion which is understandable. I can only imagine how boring it can be for a young driver to almost spend all their time around executives who are 10-20 years older.

Hunt also had a pet German Shepherd dog, Oscar who he would insist on taking to posh restaurants and the like. Below is a pic of Ocscar and James, hanging out by the track rather than dining together at La Gavroche or wherever but we cannot have everything.

Why do you make an assumption the cat may not be Webbers? Let me guess not macho enough pet? I must be the only person who is not a huge fan of dogs. They are dirty, needy, dependent, insecure, big cry babies if left alone and just time consuming babies who need to be taken for walks every morning. My take is SOME dog owners are the sort of people who needs someone to show them affection, someone to make them feel needed, someone who need to be control of something. Seriously give me cat any day, they are smarter, natural hunters, clean, selfish, curious, adventurous and independent.

Oh let's not turn a light-hearted look at drivers and their pets into knocking their choice of animal. Instead, let's just celebrate the wide variety of companion animals chosen and the affection shown them, eh? In any case, to answer your question, no I didn't asume the cat wasn't Webber's, I just said I couldn't be sure it definitely was. Unlike his dogs and donkeys, I couldn't remember him talking about the kitty or seeing any other pictures of it, so even thought it's most likely a family pet, I allowed the possibility it might also be a friend's cat or whatever.

wasn't Bill Clinton "forced" to get a dog when he was elected?
Well F1 drivers are hardly at home, so a dog fits them better ...

Wasn't there a story back in Schumachers Benetton years about him looking after a stray kitten at some test session?
Yes. Di Spires has a nice account of it in her memoir "I just made the tea: tales from 30 years inside Formula1"
"On another occasion in Jerez it was Stuart's [her husband] turn to be unimpressed by Michael's fondness for animals. We had started feeding a stray kitten that was hanging around the circuit and when the test was over, Michael said, 'Can you bring the kitten round to Estoril?' (It was the next race.) Stuart put his foot down firmly, because it was an overnight trip. 'What the hell am I going to do with a kitten?' He said. 'No Michael, I am not bringing it.'
Michael argued back. 'Well, I will collect my plane in Germany and will have it at Estoril and I want to take the kitten home, so would you mind bringing it?'
Stuart was adamant however, so Corinna asked what we could do for the moggy. I suggested we get it some food so she came to the supermarket with me and we bought a carrier bag full of cat food and gave it to the slightly bemused gate attendant, asking him to feed the kitten after we'd left. I'm sure he probably took the food home for his own cat but the thought was there.
Nooooo, I choose to think instead that the attendant bonded with the little stray kitten and gave it a loving home! Di Spires' book is lovely, by the way and has some very sweet and charming stories to tell about her time with the Benetton team. Like how Flavio got all mad when he ruined some expensive shoes by accidentally stepping in the water bowl of Jenny, Corinna and Michael's West Highland terrier.
