Meh - I think they're pretty equally boring.

Probably because they are all spec cars with some minimal body panel tweakings and engine differences.
And why cannot they ever get rid of the sticker "headlights"...
Posted 22 February 2013 - 10:05
Yeh I understand - also the V8 Supercars look a bit meh ,especially compared to DTM.

if you're looking for real striking beauties in Tin-top racing, nothing beats SuperGT of japan

Yes of course. No need for real lights, they add weight and would be a nightmare for debris. Are the lights decals?

They want these cars to resemblence more actual road cars, ie be stock cars... I mean that's what NASCAR public relations department and TV broadcasts are trying to say to us all the time, that this Gen 6 is closer to that. Yet they cannot even have such simple thing as headlights.
Okay, my personal level of interest which is sportscar racing is different as there on top of everything else you actually need the headlights to see where you are going in the dark as well as to make signals to other cars (plus there's generally less contact as well), but look at touring cars - all of them have headlights in every series I know of. Those S2000 cars in WTCC and BTCC never run in the dark and the races are only like 20 minute long, but they still have the lights. And they tend to crash into each other nearly as often as these medieval technology NSC tube frames.
Look at the V8 Supercars. Tech wise it's as close as it gets to NASCAR run on road courses (minus Grand-Am of course), ie despite the minor bodywork changes the cars are nearly identical in spec and they move around like big ocean cruisers. Yet they still have headlights, albeit tiny ones and often covered under sponsor stickers. But still

Huh?
COT
GEN 6
Posted 22 February 2013 - 15:58
Yeah, but V8 supercars also have opening doors and what not. If fake headlights are the thing keeping you off the Gen 6 car I'm afraid you are 30 years too late to NASCAR.

It's not the lights or any other nitpick detail that's keeping me away (as you said it's nothing new), but generally the continuing SPEC nature of these cars and the way the series keeps putting drivers faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar ahead in importance.
But yes you are right about the doors and whatnot regarding V8s, but generally speaking it is the touring car version of NASCAR, with less gimmicks of course.

So all of the front is a molded piece. Steel or fibreglass?

Molded composite. The hood and deck lid are composite too starting with Gen 6. The nose and tail piece, aka front and rear fascia, have been molded pieces for a few years now. Once the design is baked in and approved by NASCAR, the piece is assigned an OE part number, which is molded in one or two locations and which NASCAR can then reference in technical inspection.
I don't know this but I wouldn't be surprised if Roush is manufacturing the components for both Ford and Chevrolet. That's where both OEs generally go for this sort of work.

How's everyone liking the type of racing these cars have revived so far? I'm curious
Posted 22 February 2013 - 16:47
from far there is not much difference.Huh?
Posted 22 February 2013 - 17:01
I see pretty big differences.from far there is not much difference.

I see pretty big differences.
Swage lines, flared wheel arches, more raked screen, completely different front and rear etc etc
You'd be in the minority if you couldn't distinguish a 2012 from a 2013 on track.

Hey we still have NCTWS and NNS for plate-track tandem shenanigans.yeah i liked the angry swarm of bee's pack racing best, tandoms second, but the dross of "look we fixed tandems" single file tedium was the worst.

If that's not concept art, then the Mustang line has just found a new fan.
