I got to see my favorite F1 driver Mika Häkkinen today at a liquor store here in Finland, Jyväskylä. He seemed to be a bit thirsty buying one bottle of 0,7 l Koskenkorva (40%) and four IV beers. Now thats the way of keeping up Finnish drinking culture, don´t cha think? When having a hard work you need even harder partying!!

Oh no! I hope he cuts his drinking in good time before next weekend. Maybe he just found out that McL is not going to be competitive all season...:(

Not only are McLaren making him depressed, his baby must be making him near the end of his tether. Mika's drinking away his sorrow's.

That, or he could just be doing a bit of entertaining. Many people that buy alcoholic beverages aren't alcoholics.:drunk:

Oh god he's given up and turn to the bottle. I thought he would at least wait another race or two!

Hi Ross.

Perhaps David should keep some champagne for Mika rather than squirt it over the crowd below.

Wow, is that a take off on the beer-in-a-hat thing? Except instead of a long straw it has an IV needle at the end...

For some reason, Mika shopping for alcohol just strikes me as weird.

Wonder why he wouldn't just send Erja (or a driver) out for it.

There were all kinds of rumours of Hakkinen's drinking during his slump at the start of last year. But one bottle of vodka, 4 beers, ahhh-- doesn't look like he's like he's doing anything but holding up the 'Finnish drinking culture's' reputation. We'll see if they're sponging him out of gutters by mid year. :)

When I was working in Korea, my colleague loved his Korean beer - he mixed 50% Vodka with it, and told me it was excellent. :drunk: His first Korean word was "mekju" which was beer.
On a more serious note, I think that F1 drivers should stay off the booze during the season. Just go for a good red wine from Australia. Anything from the Coonawarra district of South Australia is very excellent.:stoned: :drunk:  If any of you want to try sometning really good, Penfold's Bin 28 is excellent.:);)

By the way, I wonder if FIA is going to do alcohol controls after F1 races (or maybe in pit stops, blowing into a bag) :drunk:

Sek, is Jyväskylä near the villa he just bought? Maybe they're having a "house-warming" party with friends and family. Didn't some of the rally drivers say he likes to drink?

You are not as observant as you think. I was outside the store while this happened - and what you didn't see was MS and JV waiting outside in the car (a chopped and lowered 1974 Cadillac Coupe de Ville - 501 Cubic Inches!) hammeing a spliff and rockin' to Black Sabbath's "Iron Man".

After Mika returned, MS insisted on taking the wheel wherupon he did a donut in the town square while JV flipped-off all the locals and while hanging his a$$ out the window.

$hit man, open your eyes!

Perhaps it's to help with the sleepless nights - having a baby in the house. Perhaps he was slipping some vodka in the babies milk!

Yes, I guess he was going to somekind of party with friends & family.Funny how both of Finland´s top two drivers are heavy drinkers. The other guy I´m talking about is of course Tommi Mäkinen.I´ve seen him heavily drunk here couple of times (He lives something like 20km away from this city).

Didn't Salo lose his dirving license for drinking & driving ? One bottle of Koskenkorva (Finlandia is better) and four beers sounds like a real LAME party to me. Not even close to alcoholism...

(BTW the average annual alcohol consumption per capita in the nordic countries is considerably lower than in middle europe, as a matter of fact.)

I dont believe you saw hakkinen. Firstly he was testing at barcelona on Friday, so I dont think he left testing just to fly all the way to Finland to go to the off licence. Secondly he is based in monaco, doesnt rule out him going to finland though.

By the way, IV is tax-classification of beer in Finland:
I = non-alcohol -> 0,5%
II = N/A or some swedish piss (sorry swenssåns!;) )
III = About around 4,5%
IV = Over 4,7% and you only get it liguor stores, bars and passenger ferries.

Spamjet,
Neither do I. I still can´t belive it, but I gotta belive my eyes. My friend told me: "Isn´t that Häkkinen?" I was like "Damn, he must be!" "Maby he´s just trying to forget the previous two races?":D He was wearing blue jeans and black jacket & no sunglasses (and I thought those were glued to his head). There were few other clients that looked at him strangely. I just didn´t want to stand there as a statue and constantly stare at him like I´m somekind of a redneck. I belive it was Mika, but then again I can´t be 100% accurate, because I didn´t talk to him.

Aren't they sponsored by Finlandia Vodka? He should have cases of the stuff at home, do you think maybe they have relinquished him to second driver status and now he has to go to the store by himself :stoned:    :stoned:

Yeah, Mika is doing really bad. One sixth place more and he will be the guy in McLaren who's job is to haul along vodka and beer cases for Ron and DC... :drunk: :stoned:

Sheesh!!
Rule number one:
Don't believe everything you see in the Net! There are always
people who need some attention...

BTW, I saw MS last weekend in Hamburg with a real gorgeus
woman (not Corinna!) and they seemed to be _very_ attracted with each other...

Yeah I agree. You can't believe everything you see on here. It was only yesterday, whilst talking to M. Schumacher in my swimming pool, at my villa, in Grenada, that we agreed on people's habits of lying to grab attention.

Even Bernie Ecclestone agreed, whilst climbing into the pool, with Meg Ryan and Arnold Schwartzeneggar nodding from the table.

Only last week my own McClaren F1 road car was vandalised by an attention grabber.

Don't know what the world is coming to...

Russ, itis considered to be rude if you have invited someone over to your villa to have a nice barbecue or something and then can't even spell their names correctly...

In Arnold's place I would be very offended right now :p

That sounds like its for personal use or help get the baby off to sleep.
If Mika is in training it maybe for the wife.
