I am currently researching the 1987 F3-season for my website formula2.net.
Sources differ about who is tuner of the VW engines, sometimes Judd, sometimes Spiess or Schrick.
Is it the same engine, just a form of "badging"?
Can anyone help me please?
Kind regards
Stefan

Others on here will know much more than I do, but VW was the manufacturer, whilst the likes of Judd, Speiss, Schrick (and others) were the tuners.
Hope that makes sense.
The same scenario would apply to the Toyota engines, Alfa Romeo and all of the others.

Tuners names. Although they changed as the years went by. I have a Brabham VW but in later years it was called a Judd I believe.(Engine Developments Ltd).

Spiess VWs were the flavour of the moment in that year IIRC, but one or two F3 teams played around with Schrick as an alternative in an attempt to steal a march on the others. I don't recall it working that effectively.
One British based team I am aware of ran the same Schrick cams in both the F3 engine and the Golf road car!
