Wet/dry races are usually the best kind so I wouldn't mind there being a bit of moisture for the race...
But this is first race. I would liek to see which car is fast.
In wet there will be luck factor and perhaps some crashes.

But surely its more interesting to be kept guessing until Bahrain?
A perfect start to the season would be a series of wet/dry races in Australia, Malaysia and China (entirely feasible) with lots of action to get the interest going. Unpredictability is what makes sport so great!

We'll have a pretty good idea by Bahrain/Barcelona - tbh I can wait until then to get a definitive idea of which car is the fastest if the first 3 races are crackers due a bit of rain...

It seems that graphs are in GMT and not local Albert Park time. It can't be warmer every day at 6 (and before) than at 12.

6 GMT is the time of Qualy/Race start.

I would like it if it rained during the race or qualifying. I've never seen a wet Melbourne before.
Which is lucky in a way because Melbourne is known as the 'four seasons in one day' city.

Rain races are the best. Everyone do your rain dance!
Don't dance too hard mind, otherwise it will be 30 laps behind the safety car and a two hour red flag stoppage.

The problem with any typical weather site is that they focus on a city, not on a very precise area like the 3kmĀ² covered by a F1 circuit.
Meteoblue is the only website to do that, except the Meteo France delegation that moves around the world with the F1 circus.

It's not Spa though, the city CBD is barely a couple of km's away and the terrain is pretty much flat. What they predict for Melbourne ie. the CBD will be essentially the same for Albert Park...

It rained and was freezing in 2005 too, pretty sure it was on the Saturday. BMW Williams sold out of their heavy rain jackets!

light shouldn't be an issue if occasional showers / partly cloudy forecast bears out. but properly southerly breezes will make things pretty cool in the stands!
Sunset from Melbourne on the 17th is 19:36. Race will end around 18:45, so if it is heavily overcast it could get quite dull. The other issue, for drivers and spectators, is that the sun is very low by race end.

for sure. the 'twilight race' concept is stupid.

We'll have to wait for China/Bahrain to get a better idea now. Booooo.

You want wet races in the mid to late season to mix up the known pecking order. At this stage, all i wanted was for a bone dry/sizzling hot race. (That would have given the Pirelli's something to think about...)
We'll have to wait for China/Bahrain to get a better idea now. Booooo.
Malaysia could be bone dry through all sessions (unlikely maybe but not impossible), and China has a strange habit of giving us damp/wet races. But anyway, yeah, twilight races, whether it's for the benefit of European viewers (I prefer a 2/3am race start UK time myself for Australia, plus making Malaysia a late afternoon start just puts it right in the 'monsoon risk' time of day) or whether it's because they have the lights to make it possible are daft in my opinion.
Personally I think all races should start at 1pm local time, no exceptions unless something major in the country results in a slight time change (eg Le Mans 1 year started an hour later I think it was, due to French elections).
Going back to the weather though, it's going to be difficult to predict. My gut feeling (that's all this is) is we'll see quali at risk of showers with them being short enough but heavy enough to cause chaos. Or maybe that's just what I might like to see.

It's an illusion - the resolution the computer models use are 60km wide, so they cannot forecast the weather on one side of a city compared with the other.

If they held Melbourne a month earlier the light would be much less of an issue for a 5pm start.
Don't think it would make much difference for Malaysia, though.

Ignore the time scale, it's somewhat shifted.
This will be a messy GP week end.
1. Dry friday
2. Rain Qualify session,
3. Undecided strange race day.
For fans this is an awesome week end. For drivers, they will certainly hate the weather like this.
