Lewis does seem really much happier. We all know that McLaren is pretty controlling and corporate, and that also would have led to a lot of stress and complexity. No wonder it burns out drivers.

An interesting column. I found the piece about the steering wheel especially interesting. I can see where he's coming from with the previous wheel being too complex: on F1 2012 i get in enough of a muddle with KERS, DRS, fuel mix and brake bias let alone a bank of 20+ switches and dials

That is the case but it was also the same with Webber and Anderson. Webber/Hamilton both speak to Anderson/Benson in conjunction with Red Bull/Mercedes down the telephone and then they type the column up and its done.

It'll be the same for whichever driver does it next.

True, but with Webber I got a lot more the impression the topics were Marks idea, not Andrew Benson.

I didnt like the sugar coated, Disney like style of the 'column of Lewis'. It reads as if Benson said: okay Lewis, start with something about your life, your new start at Mercedes, throw in something about work with children and lets end with a boost for followers at social media. All finely manicured with excellent grammar, in Bensons typical sentence, enter, enter, sentence, enter, enter-style. Id rather Lewis would sit down himself and thrown in some juicy tales about mcLaren, or anything else more racing related, unstructured and only with some grammar corrections.

I think it's partly because we used to only talk about it in drivers' thread. Now that we have to make a dedicated thread of it, it's only natural more people will take a look and comment, and not all of them are going to be positive about it..

Especially bearing in mind the level of virtriol Lewis instills in his detractors, it would be a red rag to them and used to endlessly bash him with. Could you imagine the 'digging rights' if he wrote the column like his twitter account? I'm glad the BBC insist on proof reading!!

So although it's likely to be pretty vanilla stuff, we can kinda only comment/judge his column within the context it's written in. I agree on more focused racing comments but we'll hopefully see more as he gets into his stride with it all.

Its not sleaze I want, but a guy that wants to carry himself like an 'extremist', that talks about '****'s' on his tweet account Id expected a bit more than how Lewis approaches life and more of that vanilla speak. Its almost as if hes still under contract at McLaren so sugar coated. A bit more 'if people have a problem with me, its their problem, not mine' attitude. Most of all just more on the racing, and the relations with for example, McLaren.

I dont know about his detractors. The only red rags I see, are from people who get upset because I dont like the style of his column, and think its too much Benson and not enough Lewis. Instantly I get branded a hater (the logic...).

I do agree maybe we see better columns in the future, but this one I didnt like.

I doubt he'll slag off McLaren, as he knows he wouldn't be where he is without them, and also if things sour with Mercedes they'd probably be his most likely destination. Look at Alonso/Renault, for example.
