Nice to see you, Simon, Alan and Pete working so hard yesterday, thanks to Steve in the press office for the coffee and event programme

Back in Belgium, meanwhile (and if ever you get chance to do Spa and Oulton Park on consecutive days, I heartily recommend it)...
Mark Webber and some trees.
Mark Webber and some more trees.
Don't think this is Mark Webber, but it looks like there are some trees in the distance.
"Adrian told me it might be worth 2kph in a straight line if I ironed my head."
"Vacuum cleaner compost heap toasted muffins deckchair Hillman Husky prop forward syllable mountain goat Inverness Caledonian Thistle rhubarb...."
Not a Greenpeace activist, apparently.

It was great to meet you and Keith Sutton ,and I think a big thank you should go out to Graham White and the HSCC for putting on a great event
sadly I missed the Spitfire , to busy drinking tea and eating biscuits
Cheers

Phil was a little slow with his panning technique...
The couple behind enjoyed a hearty lunch and brought a model yacht to sail on the lake.
Spitfire; without trees.

Perhaps more blood pressure country than anything else, but on commentary Ben Edwards has just announced the start of the sixty-third running of the Italian Grand Prix.
If you're going to get it wrong, I suppose you might as well do it in spades ...

I suppose this comes under "other stuff"
I've just spent a few weeks with the family enjoying myself in France and achieved an an ambition of seeing the start of the the Le Mans 24 hour race. Well sort of....................This was slightly quieter than June and Nomex was replaced by Lycra as it was a race for cycles!!
500 hundred odd teams of varying skill - The slower riders were lapped as early as lap 2!!!

Indeed. And to judge from the second pic, the regulations governing power-unit design are much freer in the bicycling world.

Did Jacky Ickx walk across at the start, in protest?

I wouldn't mind betting that some of them have significant added turbo-assist after a plate of les haricots blancs.

Good grief - it's an outbreak of racing cars (almost)...
Adrian Newey's car.
Adrian Newey's pet cat (and if you happen to pass this way, Singapore Zoo is highly recommended - although the penguins and polar bear are possibly a bit confused).
Fernando being irritated by his Ferrari.
Fernando with an eye elsewhere.
Pérez: absolutely steaming that his seat is in jeopardy.
The GP2 paddock.

best one of the year; so far.

"Even Ayrton didn't pull away at two seconds per lap..."
GP2 drivers being, erm, GP2 drivers.
GP2 driver being an F1 driver.
Jean-Eric's obsessiuon with Slinky is thought to have cost him any chance of a Red Bull seat.
"If the marshals at Turn Seven try to stop me, I won't listen."

Meanwhile, live from Suzuka (where it's approaching 5.30am and I've awoken stupidly early)...
Nico Hülkenberg's Sauber - the view most familiar to Lewis Hamilton, Fernando Alonso, assorted McLaren drivers etc etc. The words 'give', 'him, 'a' and 'job' spring to mind.
Giedo looks forward to fighting for 20th place.
Pastor Maldonado introduces himself to the Degner marshals. The words 'give', 'somebody', 'else', 'his' and 'job' spring to mind.
Jenson Button and Suzuka's distant cityscape.
Ukyo was delighted to see Lewis Hamilton qualify third in one of his old Tyrrells.
The car in question. By my reckoning, this is a Tyrrell 041.
The 1997 world champion wonders why Ukyo Katayama still has so much hair.

I'm having the same problem, I think it is a Chrome thing as it is ok on Firefox.
The photos in new posts are never there but if you exit the tread and re-enter they appear.
When I look at Youtube the top three thumbnails on the page are missing.

Steve: it's something to do with some tweaking they've been doing to the board software to fix the problems with resizing pictures to fit on the screen. It appears not to be totally idiot-proof yet. Refreshing the page usually fixes it, but I think it may be Imageshack-related.
An alternative approach might be to clear your browser cache, but I'm not sure that works for everyone, as it may be browser and/or operating system specific.

"It takes two, baby..."
Ferrari's code system has become so complex that Felipe no longer appears to understand team orders. Funny, that.
There is still significant support for Leyton House at Suzuka.
"Marshmallow turntable hyacinth Mazda RX-3 mushroom risotto trampoline rhinoceros three tenths off the pace Captain Beefheart wheelbarrow monopolies commission antique rhubarb etc etc..."
The Hulk: incredible that he doesn't yet have a 2014 contract.
Missing: two McLaren F1 cars, last seen during the 2012 Brazilian Grand Prix. If found, please return to...

Thanks for the pictures of some of our heroes from the past. You have to give Jacques credit, most people in his follicle challenged situation would shave it all off or wear an ugly rug!

Is Mr Arron not out and about with his camera this season?
I am, Geoff, but I'm not doing much in the way of F1 at present. So far this year I've attended but one grand prix - Spain - and there didn't seem much point starting a new thread on that basis.
I will contribute bits and bobs during the year, I'm sure, as I'm likely to attend 45-50 events of one sort or another.

From my vantage point here, with my head well-buried in the sand, is that a current Formula Ford, Alan? The reason I ask is because I caught a bit of the GB FF Championship round from the saloon car meeting at Oulton yesterday on ITV4, and those cars all had wings and looked more like what we fondly remember as FF2000 cars. What's more, they all looked the same - is it a one-make formula? If so, how very sad

It's Tom Hodgson in his Swift SC94.
I much prefer the the shape and configuration of pre 90 FF1600 and the modern incarnation is a disaster!

Ecoboost Formula Ford 's many excellent qualities are that they are very quick - FRenault fast - and err.. ..err..that's it . They look huge and are ugly , they sound ghastly , overtaking doesn't happen much , if at all , and the grids are tiny, even though they support BTCC . The tragedy is that now that F Renault is moribund and F3 is a joke it's about all we have in the way of modern single seater racing- yes there's F4 but I don't know very much about it and have never seen it . When I were a lad we had domestic F5000, F2 , F3 and heaps of FF1600. And now it's all gone down the pan- thank God for historics
