"May your race car be the only source of irritation"
Gillette adverts tend to be a source of irritation.

I used to be a Gillette-man for years, then precisely because of those "bloody prices", for past couple of years I am very happy Feather/Feather/Simpsons Chubby #2/Tabula Rasa/ man! I guess I will not be supporting McLaren then.If they have the money to play around with F1 then they can drop the bloody price of their razor blades.

Would fit better with Lotus, with the shampoo, deoderant and all.
Also with all the other French aspects to the team

Isn't Gillette an all-American brand? Why would they associate themselves with cheese-eating surrender monkeys? Also with all the other French aspects to the team

The conventional wisdom in the paddock is that the Sergio Perez-linked Telmex – Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim’s telcom giant – will arrive to replace Vodafone at the end of the year.
“I’m a little sad they are not with me this year, because the team still has a contract with Vodafone,” Perez said on Monday. ”I would love to see the blue on my car again.”
Germany’s Auto Motor und Sport, however, has thrown another name into the hat.
The magazine said the “latest rumour” is that McLaren’s next title sponsor could be Gillette, the US multinational and producer of safety razors.

P&G (owner of Gillette) is a massive and highly profitable corporation (about $12B in net profit last year) so a substantial sponsorship package is possible. Razors is an almost entirely marketing driven business with very high profit margins on the product itself. They paid $105 million over 15 years for the naming rights to Gillette Stadium (where the New England Patriots play) in Massachusetts. Considering the Patriots only play 8-10 games there per year a 19-race F1 season with good coverage of emerging markets should be worth more than that.

Enjoying the comedy but this makes a lot of sense to me. Razors are marketed as having "high tech" (ironically enough) design here the US so F1 is a way for them to push that image.

I agree with this principle, so Gillette is a good punt.
I'm not so sure about Telemex, Perez is a paid driver. Had that deal been about sponsorship, I would have thought a deal would have been done to replace Vodaphone this year. As Perez is driving a "competitor" branded car this year... the whole thing seems unlikely to me.
I also believe the smartphone and mobile technology is increasingly marketing driven and the brand fit with F1 is good. So I would also throw the likes of Samsung, Apple, Google & Microsoft into the mix.

If that is the case, then I can imagine GSK (owner of Lucozade) will be leaving McLaren at the end of the season as they would not wish to share sponsorship of the team with a competitor
GSK have a far bigger business deal with McLaren than just the Lucozade car stickers, I don't see that being much of an issue unless another drinks brand joins the car.

Not to mention GSK are very much involved in McLaren's Applied Tech division.

barely dressed young ladies enticing smelly gentlemen from nearby camp sites to come in and clean themselves up or giving away sample gels and creams.
Yes...the lovely 'CLEAR' ladies that were handing out free samples at Albert Park last week were quite a sight to behold

It'll be nice to see the McLaren livery freshened up as it hasn't really changed at all since 2007.
Couldn't imagine (Telmex) blue on the McLaren...then again, we had a red Williams not so long ago!

Holy cow, that's the worst 'Billboard livery' i've ever seen. it's like they stamped logos wherever there was some free space. i had to concentrate to find gillette in all this mess.Benetton in 1997 were sponsored by Gillette:

does it happen still...?!!Gillette has long been involved in motorsport sponsorship and you will sometimes see their trailers outside circuits, with barely dressed young ladies enticing smelly gentlemen from nearby camp sites to come in and clean themselevs up or giingv away sample gels and creams. Jenson has also appeared in Head & Shoulders ads so there is a relationship with P&G already.
It's a believable rumour.
