Formula Sochi, the organiser behind Russia’s bid to join the Formula calendar, has reportedly gone bankrupt.

The new circuit designed by Hermann Tilke is being constructed in preparation to host a round of the F1 World Championship next year.

Not good news is it?

One less street circuit is no loss though.

I guess they'll have to do it in Moscow then, the true heart of Russia.

LOL bankrupt before it's first race, at least Yeongam lasted 3 years before they said no more money left.

Meanwhile, Bernie has already collected a massive deposit and will keep targeting financially ignorant entrepreneurs.

To be fair to Hermann, it's not as if they give him a white sheet and let him go at it. Even if they do, I have no doubt that it wouldn't be long before it got to a committee of people asking if he can make the first corner 'more like Eau Rouge' but 'without requiring any landscaping'.;)

Anyway, certainly there must be some oil/gas money to fund this prestige project; I can't imagine that the Russians would give up on this after having major political figures so closely associated with it in various press events.

I guess they'll have to do it in Moscow then, the true heart of Russia.

Nice layout, and an excellent location. Bit short, though? If they'd run it full-length like they do in Singapore we'd need almost 100 laps!

Hmm, i don't see any recent news about that ib Russian press. However there was article like that about a week ago, however it said that promoter bankruptcy will not affect the GP itself.

EDIT: Just noticed, that i mistyped "not" as "now".

In Fia, Russia races you.

Okay. With the NYC/NJ street course set for next year, do you guys think there will be room for a Russian street track?

There is absolutely no chance whatsoever of NYC actually happening.

Of course, there is a perfectly good track 60 miles from Moscow, with grade 1T FIA homologation, originally designed to hold F1 races...

When Russians want something done, they have it done. This GP is way too important for the oligarchs to let it fail like that.

Bankrupt of this company does not mean anything

It is understood that the promoter and circuit builder Omega will take over preparations and see the project through to its end goal.

Been awhile since I've been in Moscow but I recon it will be nice not to cross the river but somehow get the cars to go down to the Orthodox cathedral.

my lay-out allows the best Moscow sights to be seen up close, and the width of the roads and possible run off makes this a very possible race to organise (second picture taken by myself in May last year :) Moscow by night is wonderful too and beautifully lit, but I leave it to the organisers to determine that.

I've been in Moscow last August and the roads used for the proposed layout are fit enough to host a F1 race... and it seemed to me that even traffic-cars were running a GP! OMG how much Russians like run fast, sometimes I feared to cross roads! :)

Doesn't 1T mean it can only host Formula One tests, but not races?

The difference between 1 and 1T is fairly arbitrary. While there might be differences with regards pit facilities, often the main difference is paying the fee. Moscow Raceway has F1-ready pit facilities, it would just need to apply for a grade 1 license - in the past there's been no reason for them to do so, because even if they did they wouldn't have got the F1 race contract.
