I believe you are right, and it's because setup is more important this year due to tyres. So teams wait for track evolutionThe delay before any proper running in FP1 seems much longer this year... or am I just remembering wrong?

There looks to already be a decent amount of rubber around to be honest
I think the slightly higher tyre deg might be a factor as well

An extra prime set usable for P1 and P2 would be nice - 7 primes and 5 options for the whole weekend. That would ensure more actions in FP1.An extra set of the harder compound in the first practise session would be a good idea, basically a set where the team can go out, test setup and lay down rubber with is whole delay.

It's going to be tough when Red Bull fix their tire issues.
Tough for who?

Super slow Massa making Gutierrez go off the track...
Quite scare it was. Slowing down on a curve on the racing line.

I agree that just one more set of tyres for each team would make a world of difference to the inactive first 30 minutes of practice. Obviously I do understand that over a whole season that amounts to a fair amount of extra costs, but I think it's obvious that they're a bit too much on the limit right now when teams don't dare to run the cars in the first quarter of practice.
They need to remember this is a sport, a spectacle and entertainment. It's not entertaining to see an empty(ish) track because they simply don't want to waste tyres on pointless data. Perhaps...
Fp1 and fp2 get a harder compound tyre dedicated to the first 45 minutes, you have to use it then, then it's taken off you.

Ross Brawn just sited this as a a possible solution, calling it a sacrificial tire

So this tyres last 15 laps.
The times have dropped over 4secs. Did they do only 15 laps?
Edit: well now Kimi is bacl on track and only 2.2 secs slower.

Liked the new orange color on the primes here
It goes well with the Lotus colours, looks even more like a wasp

The consistency so far looks much better then the rest.
