What does "these conditions" mean? Do you mean changing or static? I assume you mean changing conditions as that is what was happening and therefore, as history has shown, last man passing the line has the advantage when conditions are changing to the better. You don't even have to go too far back in time to see this.

Go one week ;) Got over the line with a second to spare and was able to not even required to do the last lap to make him faster.

Andy

I mean what I said. Vettel was the fastest on track with his 1st set of inters and also fastest with his second set. So, Vettel (the RB) was just fast under these conditions overall...

Seb really managed to make me nervous with his Q1 and Q2 lap times. Even Q3 initially hasn't really began in reassuring manner, and when Kimi printed purple, momentarily I tried to get use to idea, that Seb will end up somewhere in a low position (because of wrong setup or whatever). At the end with in-breath of fresh air however let blue color in my face slowly changed to normal; what a guy, and if mastering changing conditions are a sign of a grandmaster, he is certainly on a right track. He is so good, very, very good.

Pretty decent qualifying considering the format. Nice to see some changing conditions, the implications of set-up choices will be interesting tomorrow during the race.

 to Hülkenberg for complaining about having to drive around a car during the 20 minute long (!) Q3.

Very happy to see Ferrari strong with both drivers again.

And what means "different approach during Q1 and Q2"?

I think what he meant was using medium in Q1 (a few other teams also chose the same strategy) and using the same set of tyres in Q2.

I feel Chilton, Grosjean and DiResta are wastes of a seat.

Staggering when theres drivers like Kamui around.

I don't think we can properly judge Grosjean yet this season.

According to Sky Italia Raikkonen is under investigation for blocking Rosberg during qualifying.

Has there been any investigation regarding Hulkenberg/Perez?

The point was: he had to use medium tyres because of the car setup. I think their setup approach was to wet conditions since the beginning of the Q.

Sutil is destroying the extremely over-hyped Di Resta. But I bet Autosport will give Paul the same rating as Adrian.

Di Resta was just unlucky to be honest. He got caught in the rain, Sutil didn't.

I agree. It's too early to speak about destruction.

I think in general Lotus' driver preference is underestimated, we heard these 'upgrades' stories last year as well. Last years points did not represent their performances.

That sucks hard for Räikkönen but with rain, all bets are off, and it's not a disaster to start 10th rather than seventh.

My guess was that had he thought it would be raining tomorrow and gone for wet set up he wouldn't have been on the scrubbed set in Q2 in the first place. Because there's no need for saving dry tyres to the point of taking a risk of missing Q3. As he said, without the brief shower during the later part of the Q2 he would have had to go out again on new mediums. They (Lotus and FI too) seemed to think prime tyre would be the better choice for the race considering their tyre woes. So saving those in Q1 also makes sense. Then I see you can argue he was never in danger zone, as his second try on new set would have been enough probably.

That's because the race will be off.

He got caught in the rain because his first run was not good enough for Q3, so had to go out again. In contrast, Sutil was right up there in his first run and thus did not need to go out when it rained.

So not unlucky, just didn't do the lap time when it mattered.

You are right. It would have really hurt if he was demoted from P2 to P5 on a dry qualy looking at a dry race. But then again part of the confusion probably arose from rain, drivers not having a good on eye on those behind with spray and teams getting distracted with melee around the weather.

Quite an exciting session! Looking forward to the race tomorrow even though it looks like it's in the bag for Ferrari.

Nothing is in the bag in Formula 1.

For all you know Massa and Alonso could have a run-in into turn 1 causing both of them to retire. It is possible, although highly unlikely....

...when did I say such thing? :drunk: You just had to have a go at it, didn't you? I was just amazed at the case because there was no mention about it neither on the broadcast nor on major sport sites. I guess your hatred for Kimi makes you imagine things.

Missed the qualifying sadly, but what a nice pole for Sebastian! Number 38! Honourable mentions for Massa (outqualifying Alonso again? wtf?) Hamilton (outqualifying the lotus cars, a red bull car) The McLaren boys and Sutil! Its him again!! I feel sorry for Rosberg though. Quicker than the British prodigal son in 4 out of 6 sessions but didnt get a fair shot at Q3 apparently. Boy I wish the old Qualifying style would come back, and erase this Q1 and 2 circus bs. Lotus must do some introspection I think. Such a quick car and then mess up qualifying is a crime.
