Hi all -

My wife and I caught a glimpse (on RAI, the Italian channel) of a cafe/bar apparently in Boston full of Tifosi watching Melbourne - We've checked the RAI website and called a few likely suspects but no dice so far - Any Boston area folks know of the place? We don't want to go to a sports bar, and it'll beat waiting for the tape from my DirecTV friends -

Thanks!

I think most of Boston's cable is handled via RCN which doesn't have Speedvison, however many of Boston's surrounding suburbs (Newton, Wellesley etc...) have AT&T Broadband (which does have Speedvision).

A few years ago I had a transplanted Brit for a Boss who made the mistake of living in Boston. When he asked me what he should do to get F1 broadcasts, I said "Move". I was serious too. What he eventually wound up doing was renting a motel room (that had speedvision) each time a Grand Prix was on.

My guess is the place you stumbled on probably had a dish.

Hi Jonathan -

Yea, the cable situation here is grim - we actually live in Brookline, where the only choice (in our neighborhood) is Cablevision, who always sucked, but now they especially suck, as they've been sold to AT&T, who doesn't seem to realize it (no plans for digital cable yet, and a vague "maybe in a year or three" for broadband).

However, I definitely saw a Speedvision logo on the screen of the place we saw, so they must have DirectTV.

It's not as if we can't we find a place to see the races, but as my wife and I are fairly rabid Tifosi, we'd love to watch them with a bunch of crazed Italians....

Hey Neighbor, I'm in Newton,

Don't know where the bar would be in the North End, but it's not that big an area, and you could definitely cover most of the bars during the span of one GP. It's odd you don't get Digital Cable, as they seem to be offering it in most of the communities bordering Brookline. Given Brooklines current demographic, you'r more likely to see SRC (The Self Righteous Channel) than Speedvision...[This being the community which attempted to ban Smoking on the SIDEWALK and talking on your phone whilst driving]

FWIW: If I remember correctly, the Ferrari Dealership in West Newton had a broadcast of the USGP, not sure if they intend to do that again or if they do it for all races, but it sure would be cool to sit in a 360 Modena and watch the race throught the Windshield.

If you ever need a race taped lemme know as I currently tape the races for a Speedvision impaired friend in Belmont.

hey fellow boston f-1 fans:
this is indeed a difficult town to be a fan in, as the speedvision situation is so spotty. case in point: the town i live in does not get speedvsion, but the town next door does. both towns get at&t digital cable. why is this? i have no idea. i've taken to complaining to them on a regular basis. what else can i do? so far this season, we've convened at a friend's apartment, who has speedvision to watch the races. i would love to know of a good bar where other fans convene (even tifosi).

here are some ideas that i've had: if you've ever been to f-1 boston (the karting place in braintree), you know that they have a bunch of huge televisions and they have speedvision, and i'm sure they show the races. i haven't been there to watch a race myself, but i'm considering it for brazil, and i'm sure it would be a good atmosphere. of course, with the next few races after brazil coming back to the continent, you'd have to go in there for the tape delay.

there's a sportsbar in qunicy called "the fours" which has speedvision. the televisions aren't very big, but i went in there for oz qualifying and the bartender was more than happy to put speedvision on one of their many smaller televisions, even though it was a busy friday night.

if anyone else has any other ideas, i'd love to hear them. i usually watch the gp's with 4 or 5 other friends, and we've been lamenting for the past few years that there's no good place to convene with other fans and watch a race.

FWIW The Ferrari Dealers Website is

http://www.ferrariofnewengland.com/

They don't have anything about the GP's so maybe it was a one time thing...I'm gonna keep an eye on it though...

Lemme Know how F1 Boston works out, Braintree is kindof a hike, but for USGP and/Or season Finale it might be fun to organise something...IF somebody finds something in the North End I'd definitely be up for it, at least there I'd be assured of not hearing anymore non-sense about Ferrari Cheating...Any of that noise there and you'd end up in the locker with the Capocollo.
Capisce ! :-)

PS: NYRxx it's not Saux, that's like Seh-KAW-cuss it's pronounced S-aaaahhhhh-kss. or S-uuhhh-ks depending upon how optimistic oen is about Nomars injury :-)

Just the like the pronunciation of Rangers is properly
Rain-j-ahhs.

As my friend says "What comes Aftah Q in the alphabet? AHHH !"
