Differing liveries always makes comparing cars hard. The following are renders by F1Ligue who produce mod packs for rFactor. The images of the cars without liveries were found in this forum.

Obviously, these renders are not 100% accurate and are pre Melbourne spec. They should still give a general idea of how the Teams' car designs compare.

The RBR is one ugly car.

McLaren looks nicest, but I guess good looks don't equal speed.

Very good work, gives you a perspective on how each team applies their interpretation of the rules.

This must have been a lot of hard work.

Also interesting the Ferrari seems to have more space at the rear of the car than the Redbull

Why are all the floors the same?

Interesting, kudos to the maker and thanks for sharing.

Ultimately it's only a rough guide as there are many details that are completely wrong (for example the placement of the McLaren mirrors and Mercedes airbox and sidepod intakes).

Isn't it exactly what the OP said!?

Holy cow, front wings alone these days have more parts than entire cars 20 years ago...

I can't get over how different the Marussia looks now. That sweeping airbox and engine cover make the car look 20 feet long.

Redbull, Mercedes and Caterham still identify themselves as the ugliest cars to me.

The rest of them basically look fine.

They are "only" models for a computer game, and not used for CFD after all.

It is an excellent thread however.

It would be interesting to see if this was posed as an exam which posters would pass  :) . Many of the designs are remarkably similar, and aside from distinctive front wings and airboxes do tend to look rather similar.

It would be a fun little test, although Red Bull, Ferrari, Lotus, Mercedes, Sauber, Williams, Caterham and Marussia are all super easy to recognize imo. so really it would just leave Mclaren, Force India and Toro Rosso for the "spot the detail" section.

Even though they're just models for a race sim they look really well researched and you can really see the differences in design concepts. I think the McLaren and Force India look particularly neat.

Macca & FI have similar shapes

RB, Lotus & Merc are similar to eachother

Ferrari seems closest to the Williams

Look how much lower the redbull front wing is than the Ferrari, and how sleeker the side pods are. Seems very logical so why don't other teams copy? They had many years.

It sure would be nice to be able to download these models and open them in a 3D software that would allow us to view them from any angle. Is this possible in any way? For example, would be nice to zoom on on the pullrod front suspension that can't be seen in these fotos.

The picture for RB9 is plain wrong. No ramp at all. Not sure others are any more credible. They are also placed at different angles. So visual comparison is difficult.

This really shows what a mess the front wing look on all cars except the McLaren (which looks like it's designed to do something!) Also, how much more refined the body of the nose looks on the Red Bull compared to all others.

What's going on with the Caterhams monkey seat? Looks like it hasn't finished being drawn.

I thought the same thing but after looking at actual photos of the car, saw that it is actually like that. There's a small arm extended from the centre of the engine cover. Posted Image

In regards to making it into a test, I had considered doing that! Once I'd uploaded the images to a host and lost the names, it took a while to figure out some of them! If I've time I might knock up a quick jquery quiz if I get a chance.

swanneck wing mounts like that come from lmp cars, its because its the bottom side of the wing that does more work, so you keep that clear with a swan neck

Exactly, which gives us an idea of just how useless the 2009 rule changes were: all the forbidden body appendages have now gone to the wings...

Excellent thread by the way.
