How many of these high profile rumors that have been point blank denied have actually proven to be true at the end of the day?

Alonso to Ferrari - check.
Räikkönen to retire - check
Hamilton to Mercedes - check
Paddy Lowe to Mercedes - check

what others?

Valentino Rossi to Ferrari :p
Vettel to Ferrari :p

Valentino Rossi to Ferrari :p

Was anybody anywhere taking that particular one seriously at any given time?

that

nowadays everything is becoming "smart" - smartphone, smart-glass, smart watch, smart fridge, smart dryer, smart umbrella, smart chopsticks, smart bin and so on -a , so they've had enough of it

I see, and I don't like it more than you do, but I thought it would shorten conversation. :D

Dyno, and testing rigs generally are pretty complicated devices, with thousands of kilometres of wiring, computers, data acquisition units, while bunch of engineers monitoring simultaneously hundreds, if not thousands of parameters. It would be my guess that one doesn't need a car for quite a while to develop a pretty good engine. For me mock up as it was suggested in here earlier is a dead end.

Why is McLaren commenting on the rumours around a former Lotus technical director and their future engine provider anyway?

To give peace of mind to their current employee in that spot

McLaren is full of hot air.
They can say what they are gonna do, but can't have a say about what Honda will do-do-do, da-da-da.

Add McLaren – Honda partnership, Räikkönen to come back, Schumacher to come back to the list.

I agree with you, but AFAIK, this story has come from Tarun Sanomat only AFAIK
Thos other ones were confirmed from BBC, Autosport etc. (incidentally who think he will be going elsewhere apart from Honda)

IIRC, isn't Tarun Sanomat the paper which ran the thing about Mika Salo testing for Ferrari in 2012 or something?

Turun Sanomat is a very trust worthy magazine but occasionally they get things wrong too just like autosport. Turun Sanomat was the first that reported Kimi to citroen for example.Salo-ferrari test did happend but the story came from mtv3 tv channel not from turun sanomat. Luis Vasconcelos from turun sanomat usually is right with his stories.

Last I heard he was going to Honda to help them with development of their 2015 engine.

Valentino Rossi to Ferrari :p

Vale was offered the ride and ran a battery of tests. But he felt it was too late and was aware he would struggle.

Still unknown. McLaren or Ferrari are the most likely, but still can't rule out others.

Surprised that he hasn't signed for anyone yet, or if he has signed that it's been kept quiet. Perhaps he has a few offers on the table, and is spending the summer 'off' with his family before making his decision and gearing up for his start with a team early next year. When does his Lotus contract expire - Nov/Dec?

Vettel to Ferrari :p

Ferrari wanted Vale and Vale wanted Ferrarii. Ferrari tested Vale and Vale and Ferrari saw that jumping from a bike to F1 is not as easy as it sounds.
Vettel, that is more than a rumour. It is Vettel saying he would once in his career like to drive for Ferrari and Helmut Marko saying that if Vettel want to leave for Ferrari, they'd allow him to do that. So I guess that "rumour" will eventually turn out true.

Yeah, all sounds very easy, but the FIA could very easily just say: Honda! No! You're not coming in if you do that.

I imagine some fairly influential voices within the sport would urge them to do that.

Neither FiA or FOM, or anyone else for that matter, would be allowed to scrutinize the car. Honda would say "no, that is definitely not a 2015 F1 car" and it would be impossible to argue against it. I'd assume that if Honda would be oporevented to enter F1 on grounds of "wild speculations", there would be plenty of court cases and Honda would provide evidence that their test car is nothing like a F1 car, in fact it is a 1997 Honda Accord.

From the BBC F1 interview with SD this morning:

"BBC Sport's sources say the highly regarded English engineer James Allison, who left his position as Lotus technical director in May, has already signed a contract to go back to Ferrari, where he worked during the era of Michael Schumacher's domination of F1 in the early part of this century.

Team boss Stefano Domenicali will not confirm it, saying: "We will see. We will speak about this when there is something we can say." There is a smile and a twinkle in his eye as he says it."

F1 isn't a quite public library or a hippy commune - and even hippy communes and public libraries reserve the right to refuse entry to anyone they think won't follow the rules.

That is as good as admitting. If there was nothing to speak about the answer would be a definite and emphatic "No". I don't understand why Ferrari think it is important to keep this a secret. What is the logic? People do move and the world still keeps rotating ... :drunk:

Yeah, I read it as basically confirming he's off to Ferrari too. It is interesting they won't make an official announcement, though. Maybe there's fine detail in some broader team restructure still to be finalised?

Well if the deal would have been already signed the answer would be "NO" also. And what is this definite and empathive? Seen much of it from people inside F1?

I am trusting Andrew Benson's tone. Journalists risk credibility when they say they're sure something's happened and then it doesn't happen. He sounds pretty sure.

James Allison has really come into his own over the last few years. No doubt he'll help Ferrari immensely.

Well journalists are a whole other ballgame. I was talking about team managers and such. Everything before the official announcement is made (or leaked) should be considered to be total BS.

The best Pros in the best teams

Now Allison has a lot of resources to unleash his creativity.

Hope Tombazis doesn't block Allison initiatives.
