Piquet: "Schumacher is much faster than Barrichello"

Rubens Barrichello has found another unlikely critic in former Formula One Triple World Champion and fellow countryman, Nelson Piquet. When speaking to ANSA on Saturday, he affirmed that in light of Michael Schumacher's evident supremacy, Barrichello had very little opportunity for success.
"He (Barrichello) can only do two things: either break his neck trying to outperform his team-mate or get used to being second, and stay calm, without too much fuss," said Piquet. "My opinion on the issue is very clear. Schumacher is much faster than Barrichello.
"There are always at least 8 tenths of a second per lap in every race between the two of them, unless Schumi lifts and lets 'Rubinho' get closer at the end of the race. That, to me, shows with utmost clarity who is the first driver and who is the second," concluded the 48-year-old native of Rio de Janeiro.
I like piquet,he never pulls any punches.
And he always talks sense.

Indeed. I was big Piquet fan when he was driving, but I completely agree with your assessment of his current character.

Actually, being the iconoclast that he was/is, and I liked it for that, I don't think he gave a flying **** about driving or not for the "prestigious" Ferrari.Originally posted by alain

So you think that a 3 TImes World Champion could be described as Jealous because he didn't drive for Ferrari. What a joke.
Te only thing he has to be jealous about is his treatment from the Brazilian people. For some reason they never admired him like Senna.

Piquet was, probably, the last of romantics in F1.
Slightly OT: He recentelly said he would race with his son in european formulas. That way, not only he would pass the kid all the secrets, but would throw the others drivers out of the track.
The reporter believed that!

About RB, NP just said the truth nobody (specially in Brasil) want to hear.
Alain:
Judging by the amount of womwn NP had, I wouldn't describe him as "jealous gay". No, not likely at all.

I just wonder why he wasn't admired to the same level as Senna, afterall he was a 3 xWDC too.

Do you think it was a personality thing, or he lacked warmth and passion?....I don't know, would like to hear comments from the Brazilian fans on this BB.

I can imagine what Piquet is thinking too:
"Damn, I may be triple world champion, but I am just a jealous gay too, because we all know that in life, only Ferrari matters, nothing else."

In fact, NP never want to drive for Ferrari, and Ferrari tried it. In fact, Enzo Ferrari died

Piquet, in 99,99% of times says the truth. Sometimes, we don't want to listen the truth ...
BTW: NP has SEVEN kids with FOUR different women. If he's gay he can deceive very well!!

Since i live in Brazil, i can say something.
I became F1 fan due NP. He was amazing, the master of early 80's with his Brabham. Since 1978 there was only 3 winner teams in F1: Ferrari, Mclaren and Williams. The only expection was Piquet's Brabham (WDC in 81 and 83). My first race in loco was Brazil 82. Was nice the lesson Piquet gave on GV.
Piquet hates it, but in fact San Marino 87 finished his career. Ater that, he lost his peak.

Between Piquet and Senna i were at Piquet's side.
There was a question from a brazilian motorace magazine last year. The question was: "Who was btter, NP or AS ?" And, surprisiling the result was 44% to Senna against 42% to Piquet. So, who is a real car fan, wich keep F1 always and really like motorace likes NP a lot.
The impression Piquet wasn't love is due a normal fan, wich only is near when there is a winner contryman driver.
The main difference between Piquet and Senna was expressed in their helmets. Piquet has one wich look likes a Canadian flag !

Senna was really nationalistic (it's not media) and Piquet wasn't. In fact it isn't a bad thing, since Brazil gave nothing to him. And there was a inside diff between Piquet and Senna. AS was from Sao Paulo, the richest state here, with great media power and NP was from Rio (has some rivalry with Sao Paulo) but lived always in Brasilia (Brazil's capital) wich is the unic unanimity here: nodoby likes there, it's a politician land and politicians are the worst thing in Brazil.
Senna always with a brazilian flag against the european stablisment (F1 was a tipically european thing).
We can see clearly on this BB, nobody stands Brazil, there are criticism about ALL brazilian drivers, the country itself, the tracks, the posters (JSN, remember ?)...
Senna overun all of this european (specially british) criticism and did it without race for Ferrari, wich do some imunity and became great. It's a great fact.
Rubens, was always a "nice guy" and people disrespect the man. So, for that reason some fans wants a "hard" Rubens, like Senna, since nobody ever will do a credit to him ...
But Rubens isn't Senna. he doesn't know how to do it.

It's true that after Imola '87 he was never quite the same.

44 to 42 !?

I would have thought that Senna would won by a landslide !
Glad to see that Piquet is still remembered for the great, IMO, pilot that he was. And as I said previously, i liked his iconoclastic, devil may care wit and attitude. Sadly, one the the last of a kind of pilots.

Then again, on historic perspective, in the 80's athletes of several sports gained this status (sponsorship became heavier). Now it's a rule, but Senna was one of the firsts to master this game. This is not a critic to The Taxi Driver, in fact, it was very smart of him.
About Piquet/Senna rivality: Once, a reporter asked Piquet why he didn't liked Ayrton. His answer:
"I didn't knew Senna before he went to F1. I don't know why I should now talk with him only because we're both brasilians."
This kind of sicerity is becoming harder and harder to find.

Rubens doesn't has nothing of class, he is there only to follow Schumi and he is doing he job, loosing races..
What Nelson Piquet said is a fact, nobody can say "no " to that..

The_Z_Man,
Good to see Piquet's fans here.
BTW: i'm not brazilian too !
Coyote,
So you found normal media's space given to Senna compared to Piquet's ? Piquet has his reasons to be so acid.
I remember before brazilian GP in 84. Piquet, the champion, with less space on media than Senna, that was almost nothing until that time. Great part of brazilian media made this rivalry grow up and nowdays they may be sorry since the lack of brazilians winners in F-1.
Piquet has more respect from the media now since Senna isn't here. It's clear to me.
