Interesting...are they pulling out of f1? As new engine deals don't usually be announced like this and there is already rumours about teams leaving them.

Infiniti to pay the engine bill, at least for Red Bull, who will race with rebranded engines:

"Next year, (Infiniti) is paying the Renault engine bill and wants advertising in return," said German magazine Auto Motor und Sport's correspondent Michael Schmidt from Monaco on Friday.

So the same engines would be called Renault for Lotus and other teams, and for Red Bull it would be called Infiniti. That is so stupid. I hope they ban this kind of non-sense. Engines must have common name and it makes no sense to be badged differently for different teams. Even then, why would they need a press conference for it? It is so embarrassing for them. If at all it should be a combined press conference from Red Bull , Infiniti and Red Bull.

We’ve had great meetings today with Renault,” Fernandes told this writer. “I think in the not-too-distant future we will be announcing lots of things with Renault, so it’s looking good.”

Lots of things?

Maybe Caterham rebranded into Alpine Renault?

They will work intensively with Renault outside of F1 (with Fernandez's road cars) and that is what he is hinting at.

Also, I can't figure out a reason why Renault would give their name to a backmarker..

Maybe they are buying a team so they can park back near paddock (as Ecclestone ban them from there, terming them as merely a supplier with no parking rights)... :p

So 2010 Renault would be 2014 Lotus and 2010 Lotus would be 2014 Renault? :stoned:

No way, gambling on "Fernandes team" is pure madness.

The Renault name is disappearing from formula one?

Infiniti and Nissan re-badged engines from 2014

Viryfan, nice nickname. I like Renault Sports F1, and the teams they supply by association.

But Renault's 2014 situation is strange. They went from wanting voting rights as a racing team because they operated with the budget of one, to be quicked off the paddock as Sakae pointed out.

Seems like politics, with Bernie and maybe Red Bull interacting (Alternators, now the rebadging).

Fernandes remarks must refer also to collaborations on the road going Caterhams and the Alpine project.

They need a press conference for this? Yeah, ok.

I thought they were going to quit, buy a team, or reveal their 2014 engine or something..

Toro Rosso is a change, so you can see why they would have an announcement.

In confirming RBR and Toro Rosso 2014 Renault deals Carlos Ghosn says he wanted minimum three teams but it could be as many as five

Bernie got what he wanted then. Wonder what Ghosn got in return?
