I wondered if anyone had any pictures, spec's information, on "Max" Aitken's GT40, in period, prior to it's stay at Beaulieu?

I recall one shot of the car (1103?) on the drive of his home, and have been told a magazine did a write up, but I have been unable to ascertain what the magazine was!

The photo in Ronnie Spain's book is a bit blurry, but shows the car beside a sandstone section of building - maybe a stable block / garage? No mention of a road test article in the write up, but the reg. no's quoted are MAX 777 then YPE 798G, if that helps?

I understand Ronnie is in the final throws of a revised edition, which promises to be the definative record of GT40s, over 2 volumes.......

Yes, I've checked the usual places, and had a chat with the current owner, who has very little that I haven't already seen. I fear this may be a dead end!!

I remember that pic in a driveway in an UK magazine. Will dig for it and the issue. Just browsed a few old mags and found 2 of the other road cars, one being with Roush and one with the Ford Heritage Center UK. (silver and blue one, one is 1107)

Aside from that have you checked with Trevor Legate, who has pics of the one you mentioned from 1982 when it was in the barn? They are certainly for sale if you need those.

When I owned 1005 during the early 70s the GT40 club secretary, Brian Wingfield, sent owners a list of club members every year..this list is from 1974. All very quaint.

I don't know any detail about the Aitken GT40. But the February 1967 issue of CAR has a Silver GT40 on its cover and colour feature within. Showing the Swiss modified GT40 sitting in a driveway. Could that be the one?

Not trying to hi- jack this thread, but on that GT-40/ Mirage owners list, is Anthony Hutton the same gentleman who later ran the vintage aircraft group "Harvard Formation Team" out of North Weald airfield in Essex?

No, the Aitken car was pictured on the drive of one of Sir Max's home's, and the was also a later colour feature, I think the car was burgundy with tan leather interior.

You would have thought when you took ownership of such a car you'd be straight outside with a camera before driving around aimlessly!!

Yep, that's Gary's car! Obviously he'd like to see pictures of the car when Max Aitken owned it, but as he's now, quite sympathetically, restored 1103, it's a little late. I'm actually looking for quite a different reason, which has more to do with racing boats!

So this list from a swiss mag AR is not correct obviously for 1103? Is 1104 then the SPP604D licenced car?

Thanks. I flew in his Beech 18 twice in preparation for an airshow 25 years ago. At the time I seemed to hear that he had been into car racing before vintage aircraft became his passion.
