If Indycar was still boring this quantity of races would be horrible. Keeping this in mind, welcome to TEXAS

Izod Indycar Series Rounds 8 of 19: TEXAS
Which one? The oval.
Track length: 1.5 miles
Race length: 228 laps
Previous winner: Justin Wilson

Yay racing cars!
I hope everyone had fun last weekend. We had two entertaining Indycar races: one was traditionally entertaining and the other was entertaining even though hardly anyone crashed. Mike Conway was having one of the "on" weekends that have punctuated his career and generally drove like he had one of those yellow stars from Mario Kart. Will Power and Scott Dixon put their championship challenges off for yet another weekend and 2012's Lovely Simon Pagenaud won his first Indycar race despite looking slower than his rookie teammate season.

This weekend we head to the site of 2012's Best Motor Race (any category), the first oval-shaped oval of the season, where there's more banking than the City of London and where no one knows the exact technical regulations until the afternoon of the race. And there's even a special appearance from the NASCAR Truckasaurus Racing Series, featuring Darrell 'Bubba' Wallace, Ron 'Horny' Hornaday and a Busch who makes George W. look popular. Actually he's not racing, so we'll have to make do with John Wes Harding instead. That's on Friday. At night.

When is this happening
I HAVE ALL THE ANSWERS.
Friday, 6 June
12.30-13.45: Indycar practice 1
15.30-17.00: Indycar qualifying
18.45-19.15: Indycar nighttime practice
20.00: NASCAR Truck race

Saturday, 7 June
15.00-16.00: Driver autographs
19.30: 10-minute ABC pre-race show begins
19.40: Start your engines
19.??: Green flag!

Are TV ratings up or down this week?
Up, apparently.

What the photo doesn't show is that these cars are in fact motionless

News? THERE IS NO NEWS.
I assume everyone's still reeling from Will 'And Representation' Power's bons mots and glove throwing at Sebastien Hornadais. I'm sure there'll be some scandal or technical disaster cropping up between now and Saturday evening. Just remember. Will nearly won this one last year before a blocking penalty sent him back through the order. And despite the urban myth, he has won on an oval before, at Texas back in 2011. It's probably one of the few tracks left that he hasn't experienced unusual bad luck at. So he'll get taken out by the pace car, then.

Whatever. Enjoy. Comment. Obsess over the invisible thread by which the Fates hold a driver's race. Just do it below. Down there.

No entry list yet, and so far the two seats vacated after Indy filled by the Aussie Briscoe, and the British Stunner Mike Conway are empty. I expect Briscoe to be confirmed for the time being, but if looks like Bia has no money and Conway won't run ovals, it begs the question, "Who will race for the defending race winner and the car that dominated much of previous weekend?"

Always bugs me to see an oval race with a not rounded off number of laps. Can't they do 250 instead?

Seems my post was slow to the truth, or at least rumored twitter truth.

From IndyStar Curt Cavin:

@PippaMann will be in the No. 18 car of Dale Coyne Racing at Texas. Expecting Servia in the No. 4. #IndyCar

Hmmm.... cool?

The only guns I need are my biceps.

With that being said, If last year was any indication, this oval should be quite the interesting entertainment that we have grown to love.

The last few years at Texas have been good. Including the caution-free race #2 in 2011.

Are the technical specification the same for this year (mainly, not enough downforce to run flat all the way around)?

Yes, possibly even lower. They were testing at Texas pre-season with the full Indy 500 bodywork. It's possible they were testing Indy-aero for their own benefit but at one point they had one KV car in Texas trim, one KV car in Indy trim; and I'm pretty sure they said it was for the series benefit.

So who do we predict will be gunning for the win in Texas? Penske or Ganassi finally getting a win this season or another surprise victor?

No sign of UK TV coverage information yet.

Ganassi and Penske cars ran well here last year so I expect a decent finish from them. And Helio has always been fast here, so that is my pick for the race win.

Touche, PayasYouRace.

The only question remains: what is the theme tune for Saturday's race? Pumped Up Kicks seems tactless, so maybe Hey Man, Nice Shot is the way to go.

My pick for the win: Scott Dixon. Maybe a sly fiver on Ed Carpenter too.

If there are empty seats, can't someone go see what Nelsinho is doing? The man does have open-wheel experience however er...scandalous it may have been.

And just randomly throw him in an Indycar on an oval? There's enough Indycar-ready people walking around already.

THIS is the most insane thing ever to come out of Texas. Maybe that's why Formula 1 raced there. (bonus points for who can guess the winner)

That's a hell of a photo JP. I just realized I don't think I know what any of y'all look like. This is what an NRA fan/school shooter Canada-style looks like, or at least looked like in 2009 at the tender age of 18. Haven't got anything more recent than that I'm afraid.

So go on, somebody top that. It's about time we all knew what the rest of us look like so we can find each other at races we go to.
