My favorite was/is Kimi, but on current form and as a team owner I will go with Vettel. Try to be business minded and not a fanboy while choosing the driver anyway it's your choice.

Not all drivers added, but you can name it if you feel it's needed.

I've a dislike for a Vettel (cause he is winning just too much) but if I would want to best driver atm (best form) I would pick him, sadly.

From racing point of view I have no clear no1. Vettel is the best this season, but looking long-term you have to consider form trend for next years and odd seasons (Hamilton 2011). Also Vettel seems hard to manage, as we seen in Malaysia.

Marketing point of view: Mercedes became insanely popular thanks to Hamilton, despite having 7 time WDC before. But Lewis and Alonso have also extremely high financial demands compared to Seb or Kimi.

Thus, I refrain from voting. If I was RBR I would try to keep Vettel, if I was Ferrari I would try to get Vettel - nevermind intra-team battle, weakening the opponent would compensate that. If I was McLaren... I would be screwed

I rate Kimi 4th best atm. Nando is very, very good, clever and so driven, but a whisker behind SV/LH on pure pace I reckon. Sebi - genius in the current RB but I'd be unsure what would happen if we gave him a car with a nervous back end. Also he'd give my team one of his arrogant tosser moments and have to miss the next race following a mysterious fall down the stairs :p . Lewis - always fast, great motivator, great at setup and great for sponsorship.

Since Lewis is not in the poll, this would be my rank of choice;

1. Fernando
2. Sebastian
3. Kimi

I have been thinking the same; maybe I am not paying as good attention I thought that I was.

Perhaps we need little clarification, such as where are you in terms of development, what realistically are you shooting for, etc. To put Vettel into Marussia I think would be a mistake, just as much to put him into Sauber. Not everyone is good for such positions.

Since you can only name a single driver, almost everyone will select one of the drivers, who are currently considered to be in the top-4-group.

Your attention maybe is just a tad selective :D , anyway...

"Lewis not only has an immense driving talent, but a great technical understanding. He also has the right feel for the staff and how to motivate them. After the first two days of testing, he knew all 50 team members at the track by name. The image of him that is sometimes drawn by the media does not correspond to reality,"

Nope, I just missed him, apparently.

No, he was part of it, as Hamilton

Tbh Kimi, Alonso, Lewis, Vettel are now pretty interchangeable.

When was the last time any were responsible for a crash? Japan 2012?

On current form, Vettel. He is maximising his opportunities as Alonso and Hamilton were last season.

That said, different drivers have looked unbeatable on different weekends this season which shows how important the car getting into that sweet spot with the tyres is. My worry is that finding said sweet spot seems to be at least partly down to luck, which I'm not sure it should be.

But that is because he was calling them "mate", "friend", "Son", "dude", "Homie", "Number 1", "Number 2", "Nico's sideman" and so forth... :D

Joking. But the thread seemed to need a little levity.

I would pick Sebastian for a driver on current form - assuming that includes the current cars because it is always car + driver.

I don't think so. Or Kimi would be winning it by a mile.

Hamilton, Vettel (and Rosberg) solely by the virtue of (or rather lack of) age are the best long term prospects right now. Räikkönen and Alonso are both on or close to home stretch career wise. Then again Vettel has hinted at early retirement, though I would not take that too seriously despite Vettels counterpart Stoner doing just that.

he really didn't, what he actually said was, "I could leave in 5 years I could be in another team, who knows what the future brings?"

I would choose Kimi but his salary is kind of expensive with all the points bonuses he has :)

Vettel, I think this is his best year so if it was just based on current form I would pick him.
