Sadly, being consious does not rule out having life threatening injures

no way..?
It didn't look too bad a crash
RIP..
Oliver Gavin (who ran behind the Aston when it went off) suggested that the Aston may have hit a tree directly behind the barrier, which we saw in pieces.

It feels like the accident was much harder than it should've been at that part of the track.

Looked like a very big hit on the driver side.

It was a big hit, the left side of the car was quite heavily damaged and it'd obviously penetrated the barrier.
Nevertheless its quite a shock, I guess thats just a reflection of how safe motorsport is nowadays.

The theory about the tree, seems partly unlikely now, as the car hit the barrier on the right side, and the driver sits on left. It seems more likely that it was internal, not external that caused this.

This his how it often looks like. The most dangerous crashes are often not the most spectacular. I really didn't expect it to be a fatal crash when I saw it.
RIP.
I think it's because crashes in which the car spins, sheds bodyparts, spins again, and soforth look more dangerous because they look spectacular. But with an accident like this - and like that of Dale Earnhardt, which also looked relatively calm - all the energy of the crash is channeled to one moment.
