I was just watching a little bit of footage from an old Silverstone race (50s) and it was obvious that the cars were going slowly enough that if you were young and fit you would have a pretty good chance of getting out of the way if one of the let go (particularly with the amount of warning they gave), Not always, of course, but that was one obvious reason why safety was less of a concern. Then I got to thinking about the bike tyres they used to race on, and wondered how quickly a modern car would go on them?

Any ideas?

And any idea whether mandating really limited tyres would mean you could free up almost all of the other regulations?

Just thinking out loud.

i think the downforce would help the tyres alot, maybe, unless it just overloaded em :)
