What do you mean? Brawn said that the test Mercedes participated in with respect to Pirelli, was a test for "all". So too would the refab YDT be a test for all. Mercedes would reap the benefits of whatever information Pirelli obtained from the test. Thus their safety would be just as assured as the safety of all the other teams was when they completed their test.

Other information learned would be obtained by the teams and drivers for their own personal use and Mercedes foregoing that opportunity would be the actual punishment they receive for whatever unfair benefits they obtained from the last test that wasn't for "all" and was used for their own benefit.

You don't see the difference? Merc took part in a routine test for Pirelli. Information Pirelli get from that test are officially available for all. A sudden test, squeezed into the calendar, due to urgent security issues, is something very different. Very different. That it happens that they have this test at the same time when another test would have run, changes absolutely nothing at all. It would be a new test, an emergency test because of safety issues. Merc can not be held out of that.

I am not speaking about my wishes, Mercedes does not get me hot, I am just explaining why anyone hoping that Merc get another kick in the ass so that their team will win, they might as well give up that dream. The thread title are very unlikely to happen but if it does, Merc will be there.

This was also part of the article:

F1 race director Charlie Whiting said on Sunday night that there had already been talks about the idea of changing the young driver test plans.

When asked if it was a possibility that race drivers could be allowed, he said: "Yes."

Good to hear.

Of course there is a "possibility". If that is the kind of questions the teams ask Charlie, no wonder they get caught out. But Charlie did not say that in response to a question from a team, did he? He was asked a question by a journalist?

Did they also ask him if it is possible that the earth will be hit by a huge meteor before the next race and we would all turn into particles of gas? No? Still, you know what he would have answered.

Mercedes are punish not to participate in YDT, and if that test will not happen, then I don't see why Mercedes will not participate in any other tyre test? YDT is not equal to team driver test testing new Pirelli tyres. If YDT still happen then Mercedes will not participate. YDT was suppose to be team evaluating new drivers, testing some new parts on the car with current 2013 tyres. Now all this is going out of the window. The tyres Mercedes tested maybe will never get into production after Silverstone race. So, as tyre experience all test will become useless for them. Right now I think Mercedes is for tyres to stay the same, RBR probably too, but Ferrari and Lotus will now want fast changes of tyres. Ironic isn't it?

if this is now a tyre test, just what does that mean for the teams original test plans? i mean, if they now have to test tyres for pirelli won't that affect their original plans? testing the tyres requires the teams to give constant data at set parameters that may interfere with what they intended to do.
