JonCan any TNFers help with images of Niki Lauda's late-1972 Touring Car appearances in the BMW 2002 at the Innsbruck Group 1 race on 30/9/72 and the Ford Capri RS 2600 in the Osterreichring End-of-Season Trophy on 14/10/72 - both of which he won? As ever, any help greatly appreciated!
The race you refer to was Innsbruck 1973(?) and Lauda 'won' (he was second) after Quester was disqualified??? Sorry no photos..

From Lauda's book I take it that the Innsbruck race was on 30/9/1973 and the Osterreichring finale was on 14/10/1973. Now the site of the Technisches Museum Wien has an incredible number of pictures from Austrian races, but not these!
The Capri entry is interesting, since he drove for BMW (Alpina) in 1973 but for Ford in 74.

Cheers Frank - sorry about the earlier typos - it is of course 1973. I agree that the Techniscges Museum Wien site is fantastic - some superb otherwise unavailable Lauda pics there - though having trawled through the w hole archive there's still a lot of hill climb, flugplatzrennen and early F Vee races not represented.
The entry in that end-of-season race at the Osterreichring is indeed interesting, as his BMW contract had ended and the Ford one had not yet started. On a separate note, I've always found it strange how Lauda managed to hold a Ferrari and Ford contract at the same time, given the rancour between the Commendatore and Ford that has existed since the previous decade....

Sure he did!
Not only that but Niki Lauda also talked Enzo into dropping his sports car program to focus on F1 for 1974. I wonder how much of that was Niki's Ford contract talking ?

I think Luca did the talking.
Though there's little doubt that Lauda was not in the least bit shy about stating his position - even back in 1973!
