Luca Badoer has been Ferrari's test driver for quite a long time. My understanding is that he can put up some impressive times. Can someone please give me some info about this guy. How old is he, has he ever raced in F1, etc...? I was amazed that Ferrari didn't use him as MS's replacement in '99. Finally if Ruben's continues to get really bad who could Ferrari get to replace him? Would Badoer be an absurd or good choice? Perhaps DeLaRosa could be bought out of his test driving role at Jag?

Someone told me that he only has 3 teeth in his head. I do not know if this is true or not.

Driver History
Luca Badoer has toiled in a series of uncompetitive teams and therefore missed the opportunity to show the F1 world what he is really capable of.
His list of former teams is a painful read, beginning with Lola in 1993 which never even completed the season. A test drive for Minardi in 1994 turned in to a permanent drive for 1995 but his best result was an 8th in Hungary. Following that, his career took another turn for the worse when he drove for the short-lived Forti team which folded after just ten races of the 1996 season.

He then spent two years out of F1, contenting himself with the Ferrari test seat. In 1999 he returned to Minardi, but was constantly out-shone by team-mate Marc Gene, though Luca was dreadfully unlucky not to take 4th place in the European GP, when his car let him down. In 2000 he returned to Ferrari as test driver and was (rightly) credited as having played a part in Ferrari's 'double' winning season. He will remain with the Maranello based outfit in 2001.

Hey Vet,
You forgot to add that Ferrari didn't think enough of him to give him the race seat in '99 when Michael broke his leg and gave the seat to Salo.

Id have gone with Badoer over Salo. Luca may not even be as talented as Mika, but he'd have a lot more experience with Ferrari and the F399

I would have given the drive to Badoer as well. I agree that more time in the car would have been more valuable...but then, given Badoer's bad luck with his previous teams, he probably hadn't turned as many race laps as Salo....

Ross,
I agree Badoer should have driven for better or worse. Here is a man that spends more time in the car then both drivers and Ferrari slaps him in the face with that. And what's worse is that Ferrari had to pay Salo, they could have just thrown Luca the keys.
Be the way I was wondering who would have the first porno avatar!

Ivan
I just copied the mentioned site's Badoer page. I tried to find badoer's site, but there was none I could find.
Regarding Salo, I think Ferrari wanted a driver with more F1 racing experience than badoer, to support Irvine's title quest.

I think that Ferrari used Salo to test him and see if he was the drive to replace Eddie Irvine. In 1997 Ferrari wanted Salo insted of Irvine but Tyrrell did not want to relece him from his contract and he did not get the drive, When Michael crashed they got a good opertunity to test Salo and se if he was a good driver.

Jean Todd said he is a good driver, but will never be a top driver because he likes "pu#%y too much"..........
