Having a whole new discussion on Alonso's wins is off topic. This is about Vettel's wins. My opinion is that Vettel doesn't have a huge amount of memorable wins, especially compared to the likes of Alonso and Schumacher. To some extent it's down to one's own personal perception and also the cirumstances which the driver finds himself in (hence i said you can't really blame Vettel

What are the most memorable wins of Alonso.

1. Nurburgring 2005, wins the race while Kimi retires from the lead in last lap.
2. Imola 2005 kept much faster Schumacher behind him, althought Schumi did the same next year so not so special.
3. Valencia 2012, great race from him in the front of homecrowd, from 11th of the grdi.
4. Nurburgring 2007, great battle between Alonso and Massa, which led to huge words-fight afterwards.
5. Hockenhim 2010, famous "felipe, Fernando is faster than you"

Thiose comes to my mind first, not so memorable from performance point of view but because wht other things happend.

In no particular order

- Singapore 2010 - grand chelem in not the fastest car. Great achievement.
- Nurburgring 2007 - impressive overtake on Massa in challenging conditions
- Valencia 2012 - comes through from 12th on the grid to 1st in the race through some great overtakes, good management of tyres and some luck with the safety car and Vettel retiring in front of him.
- Malaysia 2010 - to win from 9th on the grid in the pre Barcelona spec F2012 was hugely impressive.
- Hungary 2003 - Wins in only his second season of F1 with a car that was certainly not the best that year.

Actually Imola 2005 was pretty special. MS was TWO seconds a lap faster. 2006 Alonso was faster but nowhere near 2 seconds.

Velencia 2012 from 11th.

Hungary 2003 first win.

What are the most memorable wins of Alonso and where does he stand in comparison to Vettel or Schumacher in that department? You wanted the thread - you got it

By all means discuss his most memorable wins but there will be no driver vs driver discussion that is against forum rules.

Imola 05 it has to be, or Malaysia 2012. Hungary 2003 was remarkably dominant and worthy of a mention too IMO

His top 10 from a 32 bunch are in my opinion;

1. Malaysia 2012
2. Singapore 2010
3. Germany 2012
4. Hungary 2003
5. Germany 2007
6. Europe 2012
7. San Marino 2005
8. Spain 2006
9. Monaco 2007
10. Malaysia 2005

You know you have a lot of awesome wins, when an epic drive such as Valencia 2012 can't even make the top 5.;)

Hungary 2006 is the one that got away. It doesn't count as a win, but if he had won it, it'd undoubtedly top the list.

I will go with this order:

1. Malaysia 2012. What a classic. With a dog of a car, it was all down to the driver. As a Ferrari fan it was the second time when I was almost in tears. Same for his race engineer.
2. Valencia 2012. Another classic. The last 5 laps of his first stint were such an incredible piece of art. Just like in Monaco 2012. Great display of racecraft.
3. Singapore 2010, beating Vettel in Qualifying and Race in an inferior car. He kept his tyres in much better shape in the first stint and in the last 6 laps of that stint he pulled away to a 3 second stint necessary to cancel any RedBull strategy in the pits. Again, did that only by himself, down to the driver.
4 Korea 2010. I will include this because of his last 5 laps. He was 5 seconds faster than anybody, including Lewis and his own teammate. I've never seen something like that.
5 Japan 2008. He made his strategy and won. I thought he was faster than Kubica and Kimi in the race, which was a surprise.

I'm not including Imola 2005. He kept Michael away in a 2 seconds slower car, but that Renault was having a very good traction out of the corners. Michael was much better on the breaking. Though, Alonso was smart and he was slowing him down in the middle of the corner.
I won't include his first victory either. In a Renault yes, but it was boring for me and he won from pole anyway.

Special mention for Japan 2005 and Hungary 2006.

It arguably tops the list for another driver, so it didn't all go to waste.

Yeah... Although in 2006 Alonso had the superior strategy though and still failed.

Both of those races, imho, highlight one of the problems with F1 cars racing at Imola back then: Impossible to overtake without active collaboration from the driver in front.

Hmm... that's debatable. Didn't Renault call Alonso in early for his second stop? The undercut almost never worked in the refueling era, since he had a much heavier car than Michael on his out-lap.

It arguably tops the list for another driver, so it didn't all go to waste.

Good point.

One is Hungary 2003. First ever win and what a dominant win it was.
Malaysia 2012. Masterful rain drive.
Italy and Singapore 2010. Back-to-back wins and narrowly beat his direct rivals on both occasions under great pressure.
San Marino 2005.

4. Hungary 2003 first win, was nice, much faster than his team mate

6. Europe 2012 perhaps one of the overrates drives ever, Vettel out; Grosjean out, lucked into it because of the SC period

8. Spain 2006 fastest car, starting from pole, Fisichella third at track you can't overtake
9. Monaco 2007 pole position, at monaco and a victory we have seen this from many other drivers

as others failed to mention good drivers from Vettel I can name a handful of great drives for Alonso ( I like Imola 2005 the most) - all other weren't that special, good ones, but if I go by that category I could pull out fifty Schumacher wins out of the head. For me he was the best driver in the last years, but he isn't a spectacular driver, were I am having goose bumps seeing him driving the car.

In terms of awe/emotional impact:

Singapore 2010 - a hotly-contested Grand Chelem. The first one to occur since 2004. Even then Michael's were usually snoozefests like Hungary 2004, this one was white-knuckle hot all throughout. When's the last time a closely-fought Grand Chelem happened?

Imola 2005 - if only for the feelings elicited during the race itself - look at the up-and-coming kid shut down Michael! Passing of the torch, etc.

Not a race, but his 84/90 points in 9 races in 2006. I already forgot the individual races, but it was a memorable stretch, I was shaking my head in disbelief how strong the car/driver package was during that time.

Germany 2010, Singapore 2008 - memorable, no one will ever forget these asterisks

Singapore 2008 was a good race, despite everything that happened with piquet, that car still not should have won. A masterful drive.
Singapore 2010 also was great, Alonso and Vettel gave a masterclass to the rest that day. I haven't seen two drivers go at it like that since senna/prost

Last time I checked, this thread is called "memorable" wins, not inherited vs dominant ones. Technically speaking, San Marino 2005 was inherited, while Great Britain 2006 was total domination.

But I'm sure that you remember Silverstone '06 more than Imola '05, right?

C'mon you have to admit Alonso was very impressive in the wet at the start of the race.

Without the loose wheel nut I think it would have been his most impressive win.

Alonso always goes well at Italy and I find both his 2007 and 2010 victories very impressive although maybe not memorable

Malaysia 2012 was the best. Just when the media was trashing Ferrari for making a dog of a car, they were speechless after the race.

Then the haters who were criticizing Ferrari immediately started claiming Ferrari was indeed the best car of the grid. That was priceless.

Since everyone else treats these as "best" rather than most memorable, so will I. Just making another point for Singapore 08 wouldn't do Fred justice.

He didn't have superior strategy. Back in those days staying out longer on a lighter car with old tires is quicker than a refuelled car with new tires, except for some tracks like Magny Cours. Ferrari actually sold Renault a dummy by bringing Schumacer's tires out so Renault thought they were going to pit him, and reacted by bringing Alonso in. But Ferrari didn't pit Schu and by going longer he was able to keep the lead.

It was admitted by all parties, back in the days with a perfect pit stop at the right time (right before the sc period) you could jump to the podium - see Rosberg that day. I don't know what was perfect about his driving he took the best strategy because his team boss manipulated the race result.

Well I agree it was his most memorable race but for vastly different reasons. It was a sad day for F1 made even worse for allowing Alonso to keep the win. Crazy stuff,

1) 2010 Singapore Grand Prix: great battle with Vettel
2) 2007 European Grand Prix: kept his head cool in a chaotic race
3) 2013 Spanish Grand Prix: great start, great follow-up
4) 2005 San Marino Grand Prix: the win inherited, but the fight with Schumi was great
5) 2010 Italian Grand Prix: red winner in Italy, always memorable
honorable mention: 2008 Japanese Grand Prix

It emerged later that McLaren had warned Raikkonen not to use the Imola kerbs too aggressively, but that advice had not been heeded. Team mate Wurz brought the car home third.

Same story in Nurburgring that year.

We also don't know how much fuel Kimi was carrying.

And i don't see why inheriting a position disqualifies a drive from being great or memorable.
