Alonso says in interviews he does not mind having a strong teammate, however he seems to be very content in supporting Massa being his teammate while he has been performing sub-par for 3 seasons and in his 4th bad season.

Some say Alonso says one thing in public and demands the opposite behind closed doors. Namely, he has allegedly been blocking Vettel joining Ferrari for at least a year now. BBC's Andrew Benson:

“But sources close to Ferrari now say the Spaniard and the team renegotiated their agreement towards the end of last season and that one of Alonso’s demands was that they not sign Vettel alongside him.”

Which would also explain Vettel's only 1 year extension at RBR, maybe hoping Ferrari will let him join during Alonso's last year at Ferrari (2016). A last year always has clausules, so not all agreements have to be honored, i.e. teaming up Vettel with Alonso would be possible under certain circumstances.

James Allen was asked about this on his site and his reply:

"He’s (Alonso) usually pretty good on that sort of thing".

So it seems commentators and journalists know about this. Brundle and Hill also alluded to this during broadcasts over the year. If that is the case, what is Alonso afraid of? Surely if he believes he is the best, beating a 3 times (maybe 4 times) champion would be a huge boost?

This is not meant as a Alonso vs. Vettel thread or about his future after Ferrari, so please stay on topic: Alonso allegedly dictating to Ferrari who will be (or rather definitely won't be) allowed to be his teammate and the reasoning behind this.

Thanks.

This has been discussed extensively in other threads

PM me with a credible source to collaborate Andrew Benson's claim, no allusions, credible sources and I will re-open the thread.
